oh what a nissan feeling! Posted December 10, 2008 Author Report Posted December 10, 2008 :D after much brainstorming i have decided to keep the car, but not the k series. I thought long and hard about a 4a 20v, the size of those motors is a huge incentive. But in the end, the budget won, which means i will be assembling an n/a sr20 for it. I have a complete sr20de i bought a while ago for this car, but i decided i liked the car better as a stocko. After having driven it 40 minutes to work everyday for a year, I realize now whats good to look at is not good to drive! The sr20de was not in the best order when i got it, and has been sitting in bits for a year or so...... Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted December 15, 2008 Author Report Posted December 15, 2008 (edited) Some parts arrived today. Full gasket set from usa, $110 delivered, they wanted $300 in aus! Rings from usa as well $90 delivered, they were $140 in aus, they made in japan too, so they arent too crap. Also a set of acl big end bearings i had in my cupboard i got from ebay for $20 Also a new ta22 clutch master from bursons for $28 I ordered a cheap alloy radiator off ebay too for an s14, it fits perectly.....or it will. Cost $210 delivered So now i have the bits its time to build a motor. I have two s13 heads here to choose from, the sr20det one is in better condition, so it will do. I started stripping it down to clean it and replace the valve stem seals today. in bits many many hours later, all cleaned up and ready to go back together, the wire wheel certainly came in handy! Will assemble tomorrow. The pistons are next to receive some love....... Edited December 15, 2008 by oh what a nissan feeling! Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted December 23, 2008 Author Report Posted December 23, 2008 valves and springs back in with new stem seals bottom end started to be assembled, crank in ... the difference between sr20det rods and sr20de, therefore the weak part of any sr20de. the new radiator, :bash: now where did i put my grinder... engine mounts drilled and removed new ta22 engine mounts $52 each pulled out fuel tank, getting it modified to take an in tank pump and surge tank. StasIII Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 I love to see how you fit in your sr20 . as i can see they share the same crossmember. Its either recess the firewall and sit the motor back OR sit the motor in and get a drag link made up to clear the sump. Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted December 23, 2008 Author Report Posted December 23, 2008 :bash: that doesnt sound fun, it fitted perfect in the ke30. Oh well, she'll be right, i'll sort it. :y: 1 Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted December 29, 2008 Author Report Posted December 29, 2008 (edited) went camping for a couple of days, back at it now though.... together and painted checking sump clearances before fitting. decided the best way to clear the steering on the sump, is to take some of the strength from the sump, after all, its only an na, if it was turbo i may hesitate. ready to go in and last of all, the conrod that came out of my sr20de+t from a few years ago, it copped constant abuse for years. Doogs Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 Nice work Matt, keen to see this together. Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted December 30, 2008 Author Report Posted December 30, 2008 (edited) Thanks man, I'm going as fast as i can :lmao: Todays efforts....... widened the radiator support, welded in some angle as the new edges. Also removed that annnoying bump right behind the engine, and heater hoses, as they need to go on the other side of the motor. the auto box is a bit wide for the tunnel, a manual would fit fine, but the auto is bit too fat through the middle. If anyone is thinking about doing this conversion, a bluebird series 3 gearbox has a much better shifter position than an sr20 box, but you would need to put an sr20 bellhousing onto it, which is no big deal. tunnel mods for the XXXL auto box, plus I'm adding a small exhaust tunnel at the same time. shall weld it all up tomorrow :) Edited January 5, 2009 by oh what a nissan feeling! furryfrog Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Love your work Matt, never afraid to cut things up. Looks like its going to be together before long. Quote
StasIII Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 (edited) looks good. Bit iffy on how you chopped up the sump etc. whats ur plans on the tunnel now ? seeing that the auto is a little too fat? Edited December 30, 2008 by StasIII Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted December 31, 2008 Author Report Posted December 31, 2008 Just widening one side of the tunnel, the factory tunnel is a bit off-centre in the car, so I'm adding an inch or so to one side, will be finished by this arvo. The sump is no drama to me, an sr20 block will handle 600hp before it starts to crack, with my na setup, it will make 200hp at the most with a lot of work done to it, :) I prefer my motor to sit nice and low, it makes it look more like its meant to be there :lmao: Quote
13BT_KE20 Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 I prefer my motor to sit nice and low, it makes it look more like its meant to be there :)i 100% agree have a look at my member's ride thread ( http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=24656 ) and compare how my engine sits in comparison to all the 4AGE set-ups in KE20's........which one looks more at home? lower=better Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted December 31, 2008 Author Report Posted December 31, 2008 ^^^yep seen your ride, very stealth, i like it  No pics today, it got a bit dark. Have finished the floor mods, tunnel is now a little wider, with a smaller tunnel beside it for the exhaust, still havn't finished smoothing off the welds. next task is putting some filler on the firewall, and get some primer on the spots in the engine bay. does anyone read zoom, or really old hot 4s, theyre free!!!! oh what a nissan feeling! Posted January 2, 2009 Author Report Posted January 2, 2009 well i got the tunnel done, was just about to etch the firewall but it has started raining and the ke30 has my carport  might go and have a look at modding the fuel tank :jamie: Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted January 2, 2009 Author Report Posted January 2, 2009 Well I have half made a gravity fed surge tank, I rang around and no one is open, so i can't buy fittings to weld into it  Also modified the factory auto shifter to suit the four speed nissan box, looks exactly the same, so no point in taking pics. ....and its still raining so i have run out of things to do inside :jamie: I'm away for the weekend, back to work for a week, and off for 2 weeks in fiji on honeymoon, so progress is about to take a sudden halt. Quote
