February 18, 200818 yr comment_228595 I have a carbied 7K in my rolla, great starting point, because you already have 1.8L of capacity to play with. Its been proven over many many years that capacity is the easiest way to gain power without forced induction. It also makes the vehicle far more driveable, as you don't need to wring the neck of the motor to get power from it. My car is extremely torquey and blows a standard 3K out of the water. That is true. Also consider the fact that a lighter car increases your power to weight ratio dramatically. So pretty much a ke20 with a 5k would probably go as hard as a ke35 with a 7k. My ke15 when it had a decent 4k in it had pretty much identical performance to a ke30 with a 4age. Report
February 18, 200818 yr comment_228606 Bah all this K-Series talk . . . 3TC here in a KE30. Looking to get it rebuilt after the tax return, but decided to stick with some external basics. For now : electronic distributor, twin 38mm Webers, extractors and thermo fan with new leads, spark plugs, hoses, hose claps and even replaced some bolts. Gearbox came with a Xtreme Clutch plate with about 30% wear for free so I also have that running. The T18 has a shorter shifter than the AE71 it seems so that also came with it. Likewise I had to change the clutch to hydraulic also. Later on : keeping to the N/A side of things for now, but I wouldn't mind forced induction at one stage :) Its already 1.8L, but theres always room for more . . . . :P Report

Thats more or less what i am planing on as well, i figured an increase in capacity would be a good start and thats why i am looking at a 5k. fusion, a t series engine is certainly out of the question for me because unfortunately i am going to fall under the new vic p-plate laws. (although what i am doing is breaking the laws anyway) The 5k should be good fun though. A cam, head port + shave, extractors and balancing should be a good start. February 18, 200818 yr comment_228624 The 5k should be good fun though.A cam, head port + shave, extractors and balancing should be a good start. Sounds like the way to go. If you keep the revs below 8 grand don't worry to much about balancing. Personally I'd aim for around 10:1 or just over with a high lift 280 degree cam (30/70). Would give a broad power band with a bit of lope, whilst still being fairly tractable for everyday driving. Mate used to run a similar setup in his ke20 club car (where I got my head), and it went very well with twin 1 3/4" SU's. It was funny, had a towbar on the thing and it would pull a loaded trailer with ease. Report
February 18, 200818 yr comment_228633 With the new laws if the car came stock with that motor you can drive it? As KE30 came with T series motors. go get a 2tg in a KE30 fun fast legal I think for you? As here if the car came with the motor wont need a blue plate so a 2tg swap into a ke30 is easy as actually legally. And you can use all bolt in parts. Cheers Cameron Report

It was funny, had a towbar on the thing and it would pull a loaded trailer with ease. Used to do the same with my 5k'd KE35. Towed a camper all over the place. Used to do it easy until I had to go down hills. Would get some serious brake fade...... Report
February 18, 200818 yr comment_228637 Cameron is right (US of A had them :P ), but just to make sure get the facts, show them to the authorites that may be and check it all up. If it all goes through you would want to make sure that you keep the motor stock and clean for an easier pass, especially with emissions control. At least I think so . . . :) Also to coln72's post I have also made sure that the increase in power got an increase in break power with Celica front brake conversion and KE55 drums in the rear. This also meant for a rim size upgrade to 14" rims. Edited February 18, 200818 yr by fusion Report
February 18, 200818 yr comment_228642 2TG never came in 30's. 37's only. Just because you could buy them overseas doesn't mean it's a legal conversion here. Both of my cars have (and require) blue plates for 2TG's even though they're the right shape. 2T conversion would be the same. Find a K motor. Start playing. Learn stuff. :P Edited February 18, 200818 yr by Redwarf Report
February 18, 200818 yr comment_228663 aare u keeping it natural? if so talk to ke25 racer i have the 5k he used to race in ipra, has mikuni quad throttle setup, 4age pistons 14.5:1 comp ratio stage 5 cam with 3k head full balanced bottom end, ive still got to rebuild the head but it did put some nice power down Report

Just to be on the safe side I am going to drop in the 5k and not tell anyone. I am going to be riding on the fact that most cops won't know the difference. Also i have heard that lodging a change of engine number with vicroads can be a pain in the arse, so i figured i will see how i go without. anastasios, it will be a n/a engine. With the new laws there is a blanket ban on all turbo and superchagers (with the exeption of a suzuki cappuccino) WIKI There is also a ban on all "perormance modifications", and they would consider changing to a 2TG illegal. (likewise with the cam, head work and extractors) As long as i keep most of the mods internal and stay out of trouble i should not have any problems. Report

This also meant for a rim size upgrade to 14" rims. I was running KE70 front brakes with Girlock calipers. Shit pads I think. Would be ok for a short time but after a decent mountain fang it would come to the point where suddenly it got very interesting. Actually worked out which corner it would happen on between Colac and Apollo Bay. 90 degree left with no armco and a dirty big cliff on the outside :P Report

Another thing i am interested in is the cost of buying a 5k. The couple of estimates i have had are well apart (one was $550 and the other was $150). What did you guys pick one up for and where ? February 19, 200818 yr comment_228830 Lets see. I sourced a 5K block free (guy who did deal was a ledgened) that block I'm usng for my build now. Another 5K i got running rebuilt, electric dizzy, bored big cam etc stuck to a dirty ke55 for $30 I SHIT YOU NOT. So from free and upwards I think. But end of the day it is a dirty old rolla. DON'T PAY SHITLOADS. I feel sometimes the prices are rediculus but hey that is me..lol Cameron Report

I personly think they are not worth what some people want for them (after all they are not a phase III GTHO). Don't get me wrong though, old rollas are cool cars :P What do you think a fair price from a wreckers is ? Are there new-old-stock motors available or jap imports ? Cheers Report
February 19, 200818 yr comment_228840 First 5K cost me close to $800 15 or so years ago. Second one $100 Report
