Jono Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 i had a 4age with extractors 2,1/4" pipe + resonator and muffler and it was right on the limit when it got tested for engineering. you could take a risk and go for the test anyway and could still pass even though its loud; as long as you are just under the limit they can't do anything. i think mine was about 92db and was passed because its an old car. your ae92 might just be old enough too. butty Posted March 20, 2008 Author Report Posted March 20, 2008 fair enough. i find the outside temperture seems to alter the loudness of mine from day to day. maybe if i pick a good day i'll i'll get away with it...? Quote
Sam_Q Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 I had the same thing happen to me, notice in the mail. I cheated my way out by putting someting restrictive between two of the exhuast flanges. Quote
webers4x48 Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 Yours isn't that loud!!! Thats got me worried then :sob: LB Quote
7shades Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 Grab one of those cheap chrome tips with a 30 deg downturn on it. It will hide the steel wool you'll be shoving up there (temporarily) Quote

Redwarf Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 Droop tips actually make your exhaust louder. Not when you stuff a huge wad of steel wool up there it doesn't. :sob: Quote
Kid-Ae Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 don't the epa dudes usually check to see if there are foreign objects in your exhaust? BUT on the upside if you put foerign objects up there you'll be +5kw :sob: Quote
Sam_Q Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 I made it so it was completely undetectable even up close. Quote
Clown Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 Carefull when you get your car tested, the tyre place that tests in ballarat doesn't test the cars right. My car was just on legal (after being tested incorrect) and they made me goto exhaust brothers to make the car quieter. It wasn't randle who epa'd you was it? Exhaust shops can put in a flange with a restrictive gasket inbetween to make the car quieter too. Quote
Sam_Q Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 yeah steel wool if you want a nice fire, unless you mean those stainless steel kitchen scourers, they work awesome Quote
webers4x48 Posted March 22, 2008 Report Posted March 22, 2008 (edited) If you have a flange join somewhere, make a plate with about 5-6 holes at approx. 8mm in dia. in it. That worked on a mates skyline. It will give a little bit more back pressure but its only for the epa test. Here's a bad effort for a diagram but I think you'll get the idea LB Edited March 22, 2008 by webers4x48 Quote
Nitephyre Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 Just a thought... make it quieter... maybe? Quote
