I'd love to know what makes you think that....... I haven't found anywhere that I can't go in mine....... with a little bit of determination, a lack of regard for your paint, low range and a heavy right foot, virtually anything can be driven up.........

I think I've watched that episode about 50 times now, just to see jeremy get pushed into the water again......... :lolcry:

then you havnt looked very hard, mate 5 mins down the road from me, there is a chicken track that i can only get up on good days, with a 4" lift, and 35" tyres. the track it is chicken to is called tower of terror, theres a few videos of ormeau tower of terror on youtube if interested, and the vids make it look really easy, as its only got harder, the chicken track is now harder than the tower was when the vids were taken. (had a very wet few months up here)

hiluxs don't articulate...theyre IFS and leaf sprung rear...not much more to say about that.

hiluxs fall over alot, also known as sleeping cow syndrome, just like discos.

wats a new lux weigh anyway? probably more than my GQ weighing in at 2T. i know what id rather have lug me around the icefeilds...mechanical injection FTW

*Edit* :lolcry: @ sleeping cow syndrome, I like it.......

1: Mine does, and it has leaves front and rear, which means it has a real diff in the front. Never had any troubles out of the leaf rear end, so I don't quite get what you're trying to say...... Air lockers and decent LSD's are worth their weight in gold when you're off road and I'd take either before getting bigger tires or a lift kit.

2: Ok, fair enough, they have been known to fall over, but in fairness it's usually because the owner/driver has added height without adding any width, or he/she (gotta keep this fair) is doing something stupid. I honestly don't know anything about discoverys, so I won't comment.

*Note* I'm not trying to start a flame war or a pissing contest, I'm just saying that in the time that I have spent going trail running I've never come across anything I can't get over around or through with a bit of thought, a dash of common sense, and patience because sometimes it takes more than one go.

Peace, Yoda.

I'm not trying to start an arguement either, I'm just a nissan 4wder, enlightening you all

at then of the day, lockers are better than an open diff, and the nissan LSD craps all over the yota one, and is nearly as good as a locker.

in my truck i would lock the front and leave the rear, thats how much i like the LSD

have you ever seen a coilcab patrol flex the way they should? leave springs are good at carrying load, but they are restricted in how much they can flex, ill see if i have any good pics of mine..

there are tracks i drive where I'm already scraping my bullbar to get the nose up it, thats how steep the ramp rate is, smaller lift and tyres and i would have no hope in hell.

and at the end of the day, better than anything is a winch.

....

or a hummer ....NOT haha

and thats maxed out on the shocks, with about 3 or 4 inches left in the spring

and it scrubs the chassis rail on the side thats tucked...front end needs a little work yet

It's sad but true, I have to agree, the stock Hilux LSD is useless on anything more troublesome than a nature strip, hence "decent LSD".

You say you'd lock the front and not the rear, are you saying with the LSD or an air locker? And why would you lock the front anyway? Unless you mean just to get over something and you need to scramble a bit........

Here's a few pics of my old one, I haven't finished setting the new one up yet, but when I do I'll go and get some decent flexing pics....... I'll see if I can find some better pics of the old one later.......

1984 single cab, 22R, 2.0 Diesel exhaust, 32 inch Mongrels, load carrying springs in the rear (Front stock height, rear raised maybe half an inch), ARB bars. These pics don't show the full extent of the flex it was capable of, but should give you some idea........ Was fun though......

And yeah, Hummers fail. :lolcry:

i would go air locker in front and leave the rear in the patrol LSD

air lockers for getting my way up rocks, i can always get the wheels up a step, but then its on such an angle the rear can't push and the front just single spins so i end up falling back down (hence my attrocious sill damage)

that wheel being off the ground by a foot probably shows the limit of the droop flex, while not bad for a leaf sprung truck, I'm sure you can see the difference between that a coily ute.

whatever keeps you happy though, and I'm sure mine cost alot more than yours so its kinda like argueing about apples and oranges....

happy wheeling bloke :lolcry:

I lament the lack of articulation in my LN61... but being as its more of a tow vehicle and distance driver I prefer the IFS/Torsion bars, purely for the driveability around town and stability at highway speed.

I've also got so many extra leaves in the back I may as well have star pickets welded in there... I can load up a trailer + car and it only drops about 1"... :lolcry:

Mind you, most of my off road excursions are only sand and mud so it does the job well enough.

Yep, makes sense.

Have a look at ARB's range of rock sliders, they'll help with your sill damage issue.......

Yes, there is a considerable difference in the coil/leaf articulation as far as droop goes, but the truck in that picture was essentially stock, and I'm having drop shackles installed on the good one eventually so that I get much better down travel when wheeling.

It does, and I'm sure it did, I just bought that one for a thrasher/learning truck and found out it could do what I told it to....... Stoked!

Happy wheeling to you too.

*Edit* I spelled wrong :no2: :lolcry:

Range Rovers are the shit. Really. I had a Vogue SE for a while... I only sold it cos the fuel consumption was sending me broke.

They're incredible off road...

Unfortunately they're also an absolute bucket of shit and break down every week.

I've heard the same thing, amazing offroad, but go through fuel like it's going out of style, and break down for no apparent reason....... One I never had the pleasure of meeting went into limp home mode 100km from Launceston because of the ECU picking up that the engine had some kind of major malfunction, as such, 50kph for the remainder of the trip, turned out "that happens all the time" according to the mechanic who had no idea how to fix it. Not quite sure how it got fixed, but eventually it ran again, just long enough to get sold........

Unfortunately, Jeep owners (That I've come across) tend to think they have the greatest offroad vehicle ever, and then get pissy when they can't go where the "poor mans 4wd" <--Quoting a Jeep driver, bounces up without a hassle. I may be a tiny bit biased, but Jeeps are for posing at the beach, or carting a bootload of screaming kids to school. /end rant.

Turns out, Hummers aren't as tough as some think........
