mate of mine has just built a 4ag with wiseco forgies. not a problem yet around 11.5-1 compression with a std headgasket.

my uncle has been using wiseco pistons in his race bikes for years.

they are a good alternative to the uber expensive brands such as toda etc.

i can't comment on the rods.

spool rods have a seriously good rep.

talking to some serious engine builders, BIG race boats etc, they ordered a set to see how they are.

said they look the same as any other cheaper rod, but when measured, the tolerances were spot on, much better than any other cheap rod, and as good as any more expensive one.

ive got a set coming for my car.

can't speak on the pistons.

sorry

I've used Wiseco pistons in my last bike engine rebuild. Pulled engine down about 10,000kms later and piston and rings were good. Engine was pulled down for an unrelated matter.

search atomic speedware combos toyota, you,ll get good name brands cheaper,( arias cp pauter scat etc ) great site. if you order get a cometic ml head gasket as well. get the parts sent to one address and the reciept sent to another to side step any import duties. also the transport will be cheaper if you get some friends to order as well and share. expect $1170 to end up costing $1400. but i,d rather cp pauter than wisco noname

True that.

If you can find someone who supplys Cosworth MLHGs, GET ONE! You WILL NOT find a better headgasket than Cosworth. And the brand doesn't carry inflated prices like you might expect.

i just priced them $1172 for pauter & arias (Pistons rings gudgeons retainers conrods with arp bolts) various comp ratios, cometic gasket $82 Check out the price of sr20 pistons & rods $721 ???????

i was thinking on this last night.

why are you looking for forged pistons?

get GZE ones new from toyota for like 60 bucks each or something ridiculous and make all the power you want on them.

30PSI 4AGTE on toymods is making over 300rwkw from his 4a with gze pistons.

cheers, andrew

Yeah, there was a fella on toymods that had as set's alloy quality checked and they exeeded the quality of 4340, so obiviously made with good material. But for something to be half the price of the competitors they have to be skipping something, which is probably quality control.

ceramic coated hyperutectic or however its spelled.

the term semi forged is bandied around alot but makes little to no sense.

they are seriously good pistons.

and somethings are cheap coz they have poor quality, but i think spool rods are cheap because of the reduced overheads and they don't sponsor huge $ cars.

i think it comes down to other manufacturors mark ups more than cutting corners.

Coming from someone who has worked in a factory (me), it would be safe to say that they have to meet an Industry Standard before anything can be manufactured and sold to the public.

Think of the consequences for a company if they didnt meet any standards and just made products as is and then one of their products fails and kills someone for example.

I'm pretty sure they wouldnt want to be liable and pay damages for a faulty product killing someone, though in this instance, it would be a faulty product destroying a motor.

The same rule applies.

They're under no obligation to provide quality control (unless its governed by law e.g. baby capsules), it's an entirely optional thing. Mind you if you don't have quality control your product isn't worth the material its made out of. The rods are fit for purpose, they'll hold standard power at least. There will be no implied or expressed warranty for the rods, especially for modified motors. The difference in quality will be in the balance and consistency rod to rod.

I'd love to see the weights of a set of 6 rods for instance and see how close they're weighted (on a NATA certified scale of course). Most manufacturers will match the rods or pistons at the factory. I've got the scale if someones got rods.
