irokin Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 I've noticed this has been starting to creep in again. I'd like to remind everyone that we strive for a high quality of posts on Rollaclub and as such we do not allow SMS speed (e.g. u instead of you, r instead of are etc etc). We also encourage people to maintain a high standard of spelling so please take the time to do a quick proof read. As petty as it may sound this really does contribute to a better look and feel for the Rollaclub community. Thanks, Ben Quote
philbey Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Hear hear. There's also a proliferation of people ending sentences with ay. Damn, that bugs me ay. Quote
KE ping it real Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 (edited) Some of the spelling on this club is absolutely shocking. It makes me wonder what happened to the education system since i left school. Is it just laziness or can people really not spell these days? Edited October 14, 2008 by KE ping it real Quote
madrolla68 Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 absolutly Really not good enough is it. "absolutely" Matt Quote
flat out Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 i don't even use sms speech in an sms, t9 for the win, also if you are a poor speller, download Firefox as it has a spell checker. Quote

furryfrog Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 I came in here looking for a sms scam  Firefox spell check is my friend, I try to stay away from typing rubbish but sometimes when i rush i forget. Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 I came in here looking for a sms scam  Firefox spell check is my friend, I try to stay away from typing rubbish but sometimes when i rush i forget. 12 years of primary and secondary education are my friends (uni doesn't count - if anything, it has made my grammar and spelling worse). Even when I'm drunk, I spot spelling mistakes when I'm posting and go back and correct them (even looking up the spelling of long or strange words to double-check). I just tend to make more when I'm drunk, thusly requiring more corrections. The end product is still usually the same, same goes for my text messages - capitals in all the right places, correct punctuation, no shorthand or l33t-sp34k, even if it means sending two messages instead of one. irokin Posted October 14, 2008 Author Report Posted October 14, 2008 have got to ?? Obviously we're going to have to draw the line somewhere otherwise we're going to end up a community of pompous arseholes. Personally I think "gotta" is just above the line, "aye" is below it. My main gripe is people frequently mixing up homophones. Things like "threw" instead of "through". Unfortunatly this is one of those things that a spell checker wont pickup. Oh and just a note, Firefox's default dictionary is US English so I don't wanna see Australians spelling words like "realise", "analyse" with a Z. I do however still encourage anyone who might be having trouble to move over to Firefox or find a plugin for IExplore. Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 I agree Ben, I really hate homophobes as well :P :( Seriously though, it's not that difficult to spell properly, but if you have a problem do as suggested above and use Firefox (as an example) and make the first plugin you install the EN-Australia dictionary. I usually skip over any post that is unreadable with a 2 second skim. Quote
philbey Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 (edited) There's a few repeat offenders around the site. Maybe a quiet word from a mod if they persist? And the other pet hate: "I must of forgot it", "you should of seen it" etc. Sweet jesus its HAVE. Definitely pompous arseholes. Edited October 14, 2008 by philbey Quote
