Rola Drifter Posted December 4, 2008 Author Report Posted December 4, 2008 ae x members bolt into ke'ste's almost everything rola drifta wins Cheers D1doony  although thats not what i'm trying to get across, but then again just because we all know for a fact that 1 thing from an ae71 is a direct bolt in to a ke70 doesn't mean that we can all assume everything else does. cheers Quote
Raven Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Arent AE71's Rack & Pinion as well and KE70 is a drag-link setup? Quote
love ke70 Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Yeah so i worded it wrong, big deal... I was just taking a stab in the dark at one would think the steering components are the same seeing the cross members are interchangeable.. and thats the issue with people like you, if you are only taking a stab in the dark, don't bother posting. Arent AE71's Rack & Pinion as well and KE70 is a drag-link setup? no, both rack and pinion, TE7x is recirculating ball/draglink setup, whatever you want to call it. something about the T series engine i think, as its similar in a few cars. the wagons have recirculating turd, but arnt too hard to convert to rack and pinion Quote
Teddy Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 T18's and similar are Drag Link. I am not sure about the other Te7* series. Ke7* and Ae7* are all rack and pinion. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Better then some of the crap some people come out with.. why don't some people use the f@$ken search button, or hey... TRY GOOGLE!!!.... Most of this stuff has been covered, how many f@$ken KE70's have 4AGE's in them.. there is drips and drabs of info all over the place no wonder its hard to find. hell ive given up looken for something once or twice. Thanks to drifter we now know ae ke steering crap don't work together.. kudo's to him for trying. Quote
trd Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Ok i found out that the ae71 and ke70 steering columns aren't the same (therefore not interchangeable) as i found out after wasting a few hours of my time. At first i was only going to swap the engine bay side of the column over but have found out the ae71 parts are a complete 180 degrees around than the ke70 column (the ae71 unbolt from the top end and ke70 unbolt from both top and bottom end). So i decided to just go and swap the entire column over but the ae71 is about an inch to short. After all the swapping around, i had to go back to what i originally had in there and is still no good for me. So all the people out there wanting to know if it works or not, the answer is No. You've just got to find one thats already made for a 70 instead of trying a 71 one. i see your problem! just below your thumb where the shaft gets large is what they call a crash tube (stops the steering column coming at ya in a big crash) you need to pull the in shaft up untill it fits in the hole. i have this type in my car (80 ke70) & have been there done that - it will fit Quote

Because i was playing around with it trying to get that part to come down more so it could reach the steering knuckle (cause i really didn't want to change it all back after all that time) and the only way that i could move it down more is if i took the circlip out that hold the ignition barrel onto the column but if i'd done that, then i'd have less column at the top in the car & i didn't really want to not put a circlip back where it should be. Have you got any photos of the setup by chance?? cheers tom Quote

(you still have to change to the ae71 column) hope we are talking about the same thing here. Quote
