Mr Revhead[RL] Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 hmm yeah but locked diffs are crap for everyday driving! and also illegal in a lot of places Quote
demuire Posted April 20, 2005 Author Report Posted April 20, 2005 Tight LSD's (like mine and Mumblezz) also chirp at service stations. Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 hmm yeah but locked diffs are crap for everyday driving! you reckon? apart from the axle snapping and legality issue, i'd rather drive with a locker any day. then again, i've never driven a car with a limo hard Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 my 2nd car was a mk1 escort, it had a welded diff. and it was crap. either understeers or oversteers. which is not good when you have to drive to work everyday!!! its fine for a competition car (hell porsche used one in the 935 lemans cars) but as a daily driver... i hate them!! Quote
demuire Posted April 20, 2005 Author Report Posted April 20, 2005 I'm not the biggest fan of my locker. It's fun, and it puts power to the ground, but I think I'm having to wrestle with the car more than I want to. Like Mr Revhead said, it ploughs into corners, and then oversteers like mad out of corners. Fun, but it gets tiring... Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 well yes, i didn't keep mine in there, and i don't drive my car every day anyway. but for flat out performance use and predictability, i love lockers! hell, if i had a cooler drive car than a van (such as a 1200 ute or something) i'd probably only drive my corolla to hillclimbs, cruises and events, so i'd put the locker back in. mmm illegal i think a locked diff would be well scary in the wet tho Quote
demuire Posted April 20, 2005 Author Report Posted April 20, 2005 Going around roundabouts in the wet is just about impossible in Hal. Too little throttle, and it'll understeer. Just the right amount of throttle, and it'll oversteer. Too much throttle, and it'll understeer, or oversteer, depending on where the steering wheel is pointed... Quote
KE70MAN Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 hey isnt having a LSD make both wheels spin ina burnout? why don't u crack open ur norm diff and weld it up hehehe then it will be sweet carl :D Quote
Redwarf Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 I always thought LSD was a "Locked Solid Diff"? :D Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 bahahahhahhaha! look! its a muppet ^ :D Quote
styler Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 hmmm thats a lot for a lsd setup!! I'm gonna try do it cheaper using a hiace axle and hilux diff centre or shorten a r31 skline diff and use a lsd from the skyline/falcon. havent really looked into it too much though Quote
Redwarf Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 It all looks good on paper until you actually do it. Ask too about the various LSD's as there are one to use, and one's not to. Quote
mumblezzz Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 /me bows to the god of Cusco. MMM LSD. All the fun of a locker without the constant breaking of centres and axles. It's not cheap but after replacing my 5th diff in 12 months it was time. $1300 for the centre $80 for 3.9 T-18 rear end $30 for 4.1 Celica centre $120 for fitting $30 for bearings $20 for oil Drift = Priceless don't be fooled. Stock diffs and VLSD's are crap. Nothing beats a good aftermarket centre. Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 i dunno; i hated driving in the wet with an lsd in my dodge a-100 p/u. i like my "one legger" juswt fine what i don't like though, is the 4.3 gears 4.30 to one = 4,000 rpm@73mph in 5th now a 3.91.........just about perfect Quote
