so in my searching i found that to change the front on my 20, i can use KE70 hubs and calipers with KE30 backing plates

 

but was thinking of just using my coilovers from a ae86, so ae86 struts and brakes, Will these fit in? how will they work with the ke20 steering arms?

 

so front seems to be the easy part

 

now rear seems abit of work going by this

 

For the rear I used KE30 axels and drums (I left the backing plates as-is). This worked for a while, but in reality the axels are slightly too long and the bearings flogged out. Then when we tried to remove the axels we couldnt because the end of them had burred on the pinion. In the end we found another pair of axels (from a KE38 from memory) took the diff out of my KE30 parts car and cut the mounts off and welded the KE20 mounts on it. The diff is slightly longer but It didnt cause too much greif for me. If youve got low offset wheels you might have problems.

 

my question is can i get a say a ke70 wagon diff and bolt that in? i know its wider but by how much? will the mounts and shit be the same?

Asking questions in reference to research you've already done is fantastic. You'll only get berated about not searching if its clear you've done no research :wink:.

 

I can't answer your question with any certainty but I'd imagine the KE70 diff is going to be wider than a KE30 diff. Probably starting to push the limit a bit.

I'm running a diff that is 1410mm wide, almost 100mm wider than stock. Also running 7 inch wide rims, its all in the offset

 

Stock KE20 diff is 1320mm, not sure how wide a KE70 diff is but atleast you've got something to reference from now

rims are going to be 13 x 7 0 so i know i will need guard work, but if the ke70 diff is only like 10-20mm wided then it would be ok

 

really want to get some mrk3s for my ke20, but can't find them in anything other then 4 x 113.3

 

*Edit* ke70 diffs are 1410mm so i guess that rules that out

Just machine the ke3* axels down by a few mm and slot them into the ke20 housing. Simple and cheap.

AE86 struts will not bolt to KE20 steering arms. The distance centre to centre of KE20 arms is 80mm, AE86 is 85mm. You can fit another model 85mm steering arm to the KE20 balljoint (AE86, TA22 etc) BUT the KE20 balljoint pin is a smaller diameter in comparison so you would need to fit a spacer to stop it swimming about inside the hole (edit; not a great option). Also, these arms are far longer than the KE20 110mm arm.

 

How to fix this? Source some TE27 steering arms which have the 85mm bolt pattern, correct balljoint pin hole and are also 110mm long. Problem is they are difficult to find, you need to look in japan or the USA.

 

There are a set on US ebay right now............

 

Also you need to fit the KE20 tops.

Yep. Should have said to machine the spline end down as well.

ok think i brought the wrong diff

 

my ke20 has the jap diff and i brought a ke30 bw diff

 

are the axles the same? will pull it apart tomorrow and check it out see if they fit

 

if its the wrong diff how the hell do you find jap axles?

Just so you know everything that you have bought is more KE55 than KE30. My KE30 was one of the very last KE30's rolled off the line in Aus and they had already started fitting it with KE55 parts.

i pulled the axle from the boar warner and it fits in my ke20 diff, but the bearing seem to be wided then the ke20 and it stick out the diff a couple of mm, going to put the brakes on and she if it will make it flush

thats because you need to trim 5mm off the spline end of the axle for them to fit the ke20 diff

but i didnt have the centre in so there should of been nothing stopping it.

I'm in this exact situation. I have a Ke20 with a banjo and I have access to a Ke30 with a BW. Extra track, I don't care about. I just want to know if I can bolt the sucker up to the 20.
