leachy Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 hey ever1, just had a interestting question, what does everyone have against camrys. post ur views on the subject!! Quote
Teddy Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 (edited) The new camry is a lovely car to drive and service. Id never own one because there about as exciting as a brick wall.. but then again, its a camry. The previous camry was a pretty good car, and is usually very reliable. 4cyl versions were a lil underpowered, but nice and easy to do servicing on. The V6 versions have some punch, but are biarches to work on... simply because they put a V6 into a 4Cyl engine Bay. The Wide Body back to the Sv21 camry's are painful things to work on, as they are quite old these days & have excessive oil leaks, Horrible condition interiors, trashy paint quality, gearbox problems to name the major things. These things (besides from the old age, and ware and tare) are mainly because of the cheap design & manufacturing process... The motors in the SV21's these days are old, tired and always problem riddled. I think these were the first of the camrys to have EFI as well, ... like any car, the first edition of a major change always has its issues, which are usually ironed out by the next model. Back in there day, the camrys were a good car ... they replaced the corona, which had a pretty strong name to what I can make out. But I don't think they were designed to last 15 yrs + ... Then again look at all the Ke70's, and Ae82's still floating around. Its a mixed ball game in the end - get a good example, and it will be a good car. Get a bad example, and well... you get a car built on a Wednesday with a bad history to follow. $.02  Teddy you're slipping in to your old spelling habits NOooooooooooooo! Rolla Boy Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 SV21 and 10 Series - Oil leaks and suspension issues ahoy... 20 Series - Pretty damn good cars... V6 ain't that hard to work ok... Spark plugs are easy once you've done them once... The only hard thing really is the rear rocker cover gasket... 36 Series - Not old enough yet to tell the bad things but they pack a punch when you hit it, nice ride too... Only bad thing would be to do with the first generation Sportivo's that were released with those Cruddy Michelin Tyres... They never steer straight... Quote
Tiger Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 Tiger LOVES the new blown Camrys! VERY MUCH  Quote

demuire Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 I have an SV21 wagon. It is cheap, boring, attracts no attention, and I can park it anywhere I like without worrying about anything happening to it. It is also a PITA to work on, and keeps chewing up starter motors (or rather, the solonoids). After owning the Camry for just over a year, I'd rather own a VT Commodore wagon. More comfortable, more fun to drive, looks better and can tow more. Quote
ancullen Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 Go the VT over the Camry definitely!!! I've got a mate with a dark blue VT wagon, V6 with manual tranny (good luck finding one) and 17 inch mags. It looks great and even better when sideways around witches hats! Quote
demuire Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 Heh, I actually *want* an auto. What's wrong with me, I don't know. Maybe someone needs to slap me around with a big fish  I really like the VT wagon, in dark blue, with the small wind deflector thing on the hatch (I think it's a factory option?), tinted windows, bling wheels, and twin chrome tips out the back. Mmm. And yes, I was driving behind one the other day just like that and just went "I WANT" Quote
Tiger Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 I don't own a wagon, but you can buy my VT Series 2 S Pack , if you want it! Quote
coln72 Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 I prefer the Commodore over the Camry aswell, thats why a got one. Wagon pics Quote
demuire Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 If you had a wagon, I'd give you... two dollar! But because it isn't a wagon, I offer one dollar fiddy! Seriously though, yes I'd like one. No I have no money. Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 the 20 series are horrible ont he road! you may not notice it so much there casue of your lack of real roads  but i had to drive a v6 wagon to chch (about 400kays) the flatdeck hilux i drove back was FAR FAR FAR more fun..... i certainly didnt notice any "punch" from the V6 in saying that, they seem to be a pretty good rep/family wagon. the old 21 series were truely horrible. the new ones are ugly, but are FUN to drive, the base model 2.4 manual is cool Quote
Mr Hardware Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 The SV21's (pre wide-body) are crap. They are the car that made toyota look bad. They chew the juice, they run like shit, they have the WORST suspension ever, they sound like shit, they are sloooow, the auto box has a mind of its own... Wide body was the turning point. Early wide bodys had shit paint, but wide body series two and on are one of the best cars in the world. Ps. wide body and onwards, i would not say the 4cyls are underpowered. SV21's are underpowered big time, but wide bodys and on have HEAPS of power. Not quite commodore beaters, but they will kill most other cars. Brand new camrys have the same power and weight as a VL commodore though.... Quote
demuire Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 coln72: Oh wow... that's nice  I want one too  Quote
