Legality Of Engines

This maybe a hopeless thread and could possibly be answered by a quick call to the motor registration office BUT being in the younger generation i want answers now.

Does anyone know the legality of engine upgrades regarding K series engines?

For example, if a ke30 with its registrated original motor (3K 1.3L) was swapped with a higher capicity engine (5K 1.5L) where do I stand regarding legality.

Will it be a regency task to make it legal?

Would it be the same as a 3K 1.3L to a 3tc 1.8L - no tolerance?

Is there a certain capacity that is allowed to be increased? or is there no tolerance?

If that makes sense, I would appreciate any knowledge!

Thank you, Will.

You're not allowed any more than a 20% increase in capacity in SA apparently.

So 5K should be fine as its just under a 20% increase or thereabouts.

3TC is a no no. 1.3L vs 1.8L = way more than 20%

I seem to think (know) 1.1 to 1.5 is more than a 20% increase. Cars that came out with a 3k stock can put in a 4k and

cars with a 4k stock can put in a 5k (legally). 1.1x1.2 = 1.32

1.1L = K engine

1.2L = 3K engine

1.3L = 4K engine

1.5L = 5K engine

Smeetsy has a 4K, so no problems there.

Should even be fine with a 3K, as I said before :D

Forgot to mention... You just need to make a booking with the vehicle inspection place to say you're having a change of details (motor)

and they just need to check that it's in order!

I put a 5k in my KE70 and got the change of details done so that's how I know :D

This is for ACT. Might be different where you are.

Hey,

I'm slowly in the process

of changing to a 7k in my wagon,

i have put a 4k in as they come

out with 3k, but previous owner Also had a 4k in it so she changed it over on the papers,

don't think it was a problem,

but obviously the 7k conversion I will have to get it engineered if I wanna be legal..

My question is who do I ask to tell me what needs to be done to get engineered??

Or is it just the obvious like brakes??

Anyone no what else needs to be

done???

Cheers, Haydn
