20V_KE35 Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 can some teach me where on earth on the gearbox has stamping, mark that say it is T50, k50, k40, t40??
demuire Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 20v_ke35. I don't think it's actually stamped anywhere. Not that I've seen anyway. You should be able to tell between T50 and T40, one is 4 speed, one is 5 speed :angrybird: Same with K box. K box looks quite different to T box.
20V_KE35 Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 any pic?? what kind of different??? i know that 40=4 speed, 50=5speed, k with kengine, t with t engine...but when the box in the junk yard how u can tell which is which?? :angrybird:
Super Jamie Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 you learn what they look like from pictures, or you look at other cars in the wreckers and compare differences
demuire Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 If it's bolted to a K engine (and I'm sure you know what that looks like) chances are it's a K box. Or, jack your car up and look underneath. If it looks like yours, it's a K box.
blown 5k Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 Basically the box is done apart from serious modifications to the tailhousing to allow for 5 speeds in reverse in case of a spin  we never got ke55 here but i`d say they look like ke30 floorpan at a guess gearlever in the same spot so yeah it`ll bolt in,as for a part number for the bellhousing one day if i have some spare time i might go and look it up... but then again why should i when ive got one already :angrybird:
Tiger Posted June 9, 2005 Author Report Posted June 9, 2005 Because I don't have one! :angrybird: IF you can find a part number, that would be excellent, otherwise, I'll just have to find another way around the matter... as we all do
blown 5k Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 Ok ok i`ll go have a look when i get a chance the guy i bought it from ordered it new from japan and he reckons its a us spec ke35 T box bellhousing so thats where i`ll start :angrybird:
Tiger Posted June 9, 2005 Author Report Posted June 9, 2005 If I could, I'd kiss ya! hahahahahahaha Just kidding Thanks dude! :angrybird: That would be a big help.
mikeys toy[RL] Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 (edited) hold on a minute..... i know we got the k40 and k50 but i have seen a k51 from a starlet (what i'm using now) and a k61 (5 speed)from an EFI starlet....it has evenly spaced gears. the k61 has a totally different bearing retainer than the k50,51 Edited June 9, 2005 by mikeys toy
20V_KE35 Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 does k box can be bolt on to 4ag ??? heard some mechanic tell me it can...but some friend tell can't....how about u guys???
Super Jamie Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 there is a k50 which came on 3a-u motors, but you wouldn't use it, it would break very quickly behind a 4age. find a t50
kangaroosa Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 (edited) I think the "T" gearboxes bolt up to 4ag motors. "K" boxes don't. Besides, "T" boxes are stronger and will bolt straight up to a 4ag motor. It doesn't make sense to change down to a weaker gearbox and spend more money making it fit. Thats how i understand it anyway. Correct me if i'm wrong guys. *EDIT* There you go. Jamie just beat me to it. Edited June 13, 2005 by kangaroosa
20V_KE35 Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 k box can out hold how much power??? i think for a standard 4ag it can hold till 4 to 5 years...
Redwarf Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 You wouldn't put a K50 behind a 4AG, not when T50's grow on trees for them.
