good god! How many hundreds of amps does that monstrosity draw!?

I had 1x K starter motor running through a 200 amp fuse which it kept blowing,..... so yeah that would pull at least 600 amps you'd think.

 

:cool: So next question - Is the extra power that you'd get from this monstrosity actually going to be greater than the electrical load put on the engine by the struggling alternator!!!??? :dance:

I've calculated you'll need roughly 10hp at near 100% efficency to run that thing constantly at full tilt. And probably half a dozen alternators strapped to your motor. I'm guessing it's designed for short boosts at what from a rather large battery. Even then I can't see it being anywhere near the power gains you're hoping for.

 

Forget the dodgy little fan-in-a-tube things on eBay. They wouldn't even give your lawn mower a boost. Any gains are purely placebo just like hyclones etc. All bullshit.

Looks like it runs 3 x 3kw motors, if that's the case you'd need a 750amp alternator to run it constantly at 12V. It's not the power draw that's the issue it's the fact that your alternator will take up precious full sick stezza space.

Just wait a couple more years IIRC Honeywell is working on a electric turbo, ie it has a motor/generator to counteract lag then it re-gens the power by using the generator to hold the turbo at the proper boost setting.

The one I posted wouldn't have any lag. You could have full boost at idle if you wanted to.

 

They need to run brushless motors. Anyone who's played with rc stuff in recent times will know that brushless is the way to go, you can make 3 times the power of a brushed motor for a given size with 90% efficiency compared to something like 60-70% for a brushed motor.

 

Yea you'd need some serious wiring and a good reserve of grunty batteries, plus a decent alternator to recharge the batteries between bursts with that electric supercharger. They do work though, which is more to be said for the cheap ebay fans. LOL.

...and now you know why mechanical superchargers have been used for nearly 100years!

 

I took a rally-prepared supecharged Altezza on a longish trip across the North Island (Tauranga to Hamilton & back) and I'm absolutely sold on it! It only came on when you booted it hard, so most of the time you had no inkling that it was there. However when you went to overtake or went up a solid hill this banshee wail came from under the bonnet and all hell let loose!

 

Go get one off an MR2 and bolt it on!
