Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I am looking at a KE20 tomorrow and would like to know the common rust areas so i can make sure I'm not getting in over my head!

I'm assuming wheel arches and possibly under doors, door sills?

Any advice or opinions are greatly appreciated,

The 20's rust in the same spots as most old cars, bottom of front guards, around the windows, around the wheel arches, bottom of the doors... and everywhere else :P

also have a check of the chassis rail underneath the battery.

bottom of bootlid, front of bonnet, spare wheel well, definitely check under the car for the chassis rail - good call KEhendo.

Chassis rails as they disappear under the firewall. Often rust in the goose neck there. Particularly the left one.

When i got my ke25 i stripped it back to bare metal- the only rust in the whole car was a 5mm hole in each guard.

 

When i took it for rwc the guy pointed out to me a 10 cent piece hole in the LH chassis rail exactly where rob described.

Mine rusted the RHS chassis rail. Actually split after a hard bump. Also check the firewall.

mmm, all the stories ive heard are front chassis rails, and also behind the front gaurd, behind the wheel, people have found some wicked rust inside there, even when the quarter panel looks alright..

check the sill panel just in front of the rear wheel arches, right underneath, where the rubber drain plug fits, and also along the back quarter windows half way up and the gutter areas.
