Toy-Yoda[RL] Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Ok, yes, that is a great way to make your self cop bait and snap axles..... Aaron: Only real way you're going to get your "2 wheel drive" diff is to swap in a different one that's compatible with a LSD center. Question needs to be asked though, you have an old auto (presumably stock) corolla, if you're not going rally bashing or driving 4X4 trails in it regularly why the need for a non-open diff? Quote
azzy_10 Posted January 15, 2010 Author Report Posted January 15, 2010 (edited) because thats what il looking for a 2 wheel drive corolla but I'm looking for a job to pay for my parts and then the mods will fly in on it the reason why is the extra traction and equal wear on the rear tyres Edited January 15, 2010 by azzy_10 Quote
Toy-Yoda[RL] Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 (edited) *facepalm* You do realise it is already a 2 wheel drive? You can argue about single spinners all day, but it is in fact a 2 wheel drive. Traction will not really be affected unless you're doing full revs launches at the lights or trying to be a drift god. Tire wear will already be even unless you're spending all your spare time at Macca's ripping peg-legs in the carpark. Or you're not monitoring your tire pressures. Or running mismatched tires. Right now, with (I'm going to assume this, as you haven't corrected me yet) a bog stock 3k corolla, you have no need whatsoever for a LSD..... *edit* I've noticed you're converting to manual, this is still not going to require you to need a LSD. towe001 Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 My opinion - learn to drive the car first then do the suspension and learn a bit more. A fast car isn't always about horsepower Quote
toyota_ae71 Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 AMEN to that! You could shim your diff centre but it's a complete pain in the arse to do, unless you know your way around a diff. And it's still not that great, your other options could be sending your diff away to a certain place to get it made into a 'semi' lsd, replacing your whole diff so it can accept lsd or weld it. But i must say, unless it's a race car, most of these are useless. Cheers Quote

altezzaclub Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 NOW I understand this modern term *facepalm* Azzy, the diff is the last thing you need to worry about! -Get onto an English course at Tech. If you can't communicate clearly you will not succeed in a technical field like engineering, which is what cars are all about. -Offer to work for a small garage like an Ultratune franchise for peanuts while you learn, say 6months, then if you really like it apply for an apprenticeship. -Get onside with the Boss & get him to help you do a head overhaul, fit twin carbs, a cam and an exhaust. -Go over the suspension and lower it, stiffen it with shocks and make sure the brakes are absolutely 100%. It still won't drift, but then you will know enough to fit a dff with an LSD if you want one! Quote
