Teddy Posted January 20, 2004 Report Posted January 20, 2004 Hey All On my blue rolla i have the csx 13 inch chrome wheels - the previous owner didn't do jack to clean / maintain them, so they are grubby and very in need of some serious T.L.C. How do i get mine up to the standad of Xany's Mags? (Xany - how did u do it?!) any info !! Teddy Quote
irokin Posted January 20, 2004 Report Posted January 20, 2004 Go get em sand blasted. If youve got the money get them polished as well! Quote
demuire Posted January 20, 2004 Report Posted January 20, 2004 No, don't get them sandblasted, alloy does not like getting sandblasted at all and you'll have a very hard time trying to polish them afterwards. Get them glass bead blasted, MUCH MUCH better... *edit* depending on how bad they are, if they are scratched get some sandpaper of different grades (say 400, 800, 1000, 1500) and go over the mags with them, and then over with polish again. That's what I did with my jellybeans and I wasn't even very through with them at all. If it's just dirt get some turpentine or something, gets most things off. Quote
Redwarf Posted January 20, 2004 Report Posted January 20, 2004 I clean all mine with the el cheapo steel wool pot scubbers, with the soap impregnated into it, and a bucket of water. Its amazing how good they come up!! Quote
Teddy Posted January 20, 2004 Author Report Posted January 20, 2004 i tried a buffing bit on the end of my dril, but that didnt go 2 plan...ive tried the sand paper, and i think ill have to be a little more tuff - what are u talking about when u say: "Get them glass bead blasted" whats this process, where would i get it done and how much for 5 mags? Cheers Teddy Quote
demuire Posted January 20, 2004 Report Posted January 20, 2004 It's like sand blasting, except they use little glass beads. It's gentler on the alloy (as alloy is fairly soft). Read this thread, it might be of interest to you: 3 piece rim respray Quote
Teddy Posted January 20, 2004 Author Report Posted January 20, 2004 hmmm, intresting - thanks for that. Quote
Xany Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 first of all......my mags took me about 3 days to do all 4.......and after that my hands were rooted.... some mags have a clear coating on them to keep their shine......this is what mine had on them, although the coating had gone all yellow with age......i finally worked out after trying sandpaper and steelwool that using paint stripper worked.....that stuff is excellent......:D.....then i cut and polished them with a drill buff......and then after that used a product called "bright shine", it comes in a yellow tin and you can get it from supercheap....i wouldnt go past a product called "autosol metal polish" as well. :D :) :) Quote
demuire Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 Hmm yes mine have that clear coating too, which is also starting to yellow and crack here and there. I also have bright shine, it's pretty good stuff. Have also heard that Autosol is very good :D Quote
Ruts Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 I love autosol - i use it for everything from my mags to my exhaust tip to almost every metal part on my motorbike (not sure I'd wanna do my brake discs tho) :D Quote
Nitephyre Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 hahah "nice brakes man" "they're just for show" :D Quote
Medicine_Man Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 Just be a slack mofo like me and pay some poor bastard to do all the hard work and get them painted :D Quote
