Bamboo Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 When I was in the UK I bought this newspaper for something to read in the dunny. Thought this article was interesting Quote
JiP Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 I don't get it. They get paid 2000 pounds to trade it in but it also says he couldnt prevent it being taken? I'm lost. Quote
Felix Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 There was a similar scheme in the US, though I think the US got a $5000US trade in over there. The guy who couldn't prevent it getting crushed didn't trade it in, someone else did to buy a new car. Basically you have an old car, the government offers a trade in incentive to take your old clunker off the road and in exchange you get a big discount off the purchase of a new car. Obviously there is paperwork and stuff involved and your old car becomes nullified ie. crushed. Quote
madKE35coupe Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 well hopefully that doesnt happen over here. welike our old buzzboxes over here.....unless it looks like this\/\/\/\/ thats just beyond repair Quote
Felix Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 (edited) The US called their scheme the "Cash for Clunkers Program". In the US they had to seize all of the engines of the cars turned in. They drain the engine oil and put sodium silicate (liquid glass) in the motors and run them til they stop. Do a search on youtube on "cash for clunkers" and you will see heaps of vids of cars taking there last breath. Example: Guess they see it as one way to revive the sales of new cars. drc_ke20 Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 sad but that`s how the economic goes in some part of the world :D lucky its not here yet? Quote
JiP Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 That is a total waste with that Jag ay. Like I understand taking back carbied cars from the early 90's, but thats too new and EFI Quote
parrot Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 The UK classic car mags have quite rightly been in a lather about it for over a year. Not an issue goes by without some rescue of an incredible car. The legislation has made it very difficult to save cars scrapped under the scheme. Good to see the scheme ends about now, which I didn't know. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 Horrible horrible horrible. And the people who let these beauties go to the scrapper, shame on you. I understand some people wont love these as much as others or have any idea, but still. Quote
philbey Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 That is a total waste with that Jag ay. Like I understand taking back carbied cars from the early 90's, but thats too new and EFI My response is.... No. Not a waste at all. If there was ever a marque that has no dignity in old age it's the Jag XJ. This bodyshape only ever got superficial updates in something like 30 years and there are sooooooo many ratty, shitty old ones around, it's like a blight. Seriously, search Ebay for Jaguar <$1500 and There's about 10 of them, not to mention their Daimler counterparts. It's no surprise that a 1998 model isn't worth much more than scrap, it's got very little to distinguish it from a 30 year legacy of peeled paint and rust! Not to say I haven't considered buying on to pimp around in, hell even the V12s come up cheap. Quote
philbey Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 bingo. Even the old mercs were going that way and then all of a sudden they've become a bit of a collectable, everyone buying them and slamming them. Quote
comtoy Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 i feel sorry for the maseratti that was scrap so many nice cars what a waste  :bash: Quote
