i know I'm gonna get cained for this post, but i got a 3k with a light cam grind,, f@$k knows what is it, anyway the motor is fully rebuilt, i think 20 or 40 over, small cam, got a set of 4 into 1 extractors, 2inch with single muffler, standard carb, standard shitty dizzy, standard rebuilt head.

anyways its zippy sure, but can i keep driveability and make some more power to make it a little... crazy?, I'm assuming bit of headwork, maybe os valves, bigger cam

- its probably standard, and carb upgrade. i have a 4k head with rocker gear that has been started to be ported and a nikki carb on a matchported inlet/head, wondering if that would liven it up or i should go another path, i know electric dizzy would help cause power really slops off bout 5 1/2grand. i know theres a post like this everyweek, ive studied the faq, but still i want a few results of how people went with ther motor, 3k or 4k and what they felt a worthwhile modification, cheers,adam

Going to a 4K head isnt the best option, unless you wanted to drop the compression.

To make any use of a larger cam or worked head you will definately need a better carby.

Hey, apart from the performance parts inside the engine, i've done a full 3k rebuild as well....and i'm thinking more power...is a 5k a direct bolt in? Like mounts are the same and gearbox will line up?

Some of the things you've suggested like porting the head, o/s valves and a bigger cam will give you some more performance..... but these mods will also reduce your drivability which is something you noted.

 

Upgrading the carbs would be my first suggestion.

 

As KENut said a 4k head will drop the CR on a 3k unless you shave it down to 3k specs.

is the nikki worth bolting on? I've modded one to a manifold and done all the shit to it but ended up losing intrest. Ive got a set of datsun twin su's or was thinking down the weber path but don't want something to big. I guess headwork, look at the cam, shave the head and do up the carb

Gemi etc nikki's are an upgrade...... but not by much. With the other mods you have or are planning you really need at least a downdraft weber, or if you can afford them go with some dual sideys. SU's wouldn't be as good as dual webers but they would be better than the downdrafts (nikki or weber) if you've already got them.

If you do the searching. One for that price would probably need a rebuild, unless you can find one from a person who

doesn't know what it's worth to the buyer, OR a very generous seller :P

Plenty of suggestions of what you can do out of that lot. Pick and choose.

 

What sort of power are you looking for? Simple answer: if modding a 3K to the shit isn't going to cut your requirements, the upgrade

to a 5k (or 7k if you like climbing hills) will be well worth it. People are selling modded 5K's for cheap enough on here every now and

again.
