April 14, 201016 yr comment_429660 Hello everyone. I just had a bit of an idea. Could everyone pitch in to help make a list of interchangeable parts between each model of corollas. A lot of people ask will a kexx object fit on another kexx model? So what if we made a permanent pinned list of parts that have been proven to fit within each corolla series sub forum that is continously updated. Tell me what you think, thanks Report
April 14, 201016 yr comment_429717 Here's a start. - KE1x, KE2x, KE3x manual gearboxes are the same. Only difference is shifter angle/lengths, which can be swapped with correct one. - A KE70 manual gearbox WILL bolt into all K series Corolla's, but will require changing the extension housing to an earlier model item as the shifter positions are different. - K, 3K, 4K, 5K engines, which come in all KE Corolla's (depending on the generation of each car), apart from the 5K, which is from KM36 LiteAce vans, forklifts, and some Japanese KE7x Corolla's, all bolt into each others engine bay. NOTE: KE70's have different engine mounts. Some ancillaries are interchangeable between engines such as carburettors and distributors... SOME. - KE30 axles (Borg Warner) will fit in a KE20 with a small amount of shortening to convert to 4x114.3 stud pattern. All KE30 and KE55 (including KE35 and KE55 coupes) items are interchangeable between each other AS FAR AS I KNOW. Obviously certain coupe items cannot be used on a sedan and vice versa. AE86 Sprinter struts bolt into a KE70. *sigh* Falcon springs... I won't say any more. TE72 (T-18) struts, diff and a few other things which I am unsure of bolt into KE70. Can't think of any more right now, but that's a fair lump of it I assume. Edited April 14, 201016 yr by seabiscuit Report
April 14, 201016 yr comment_429728 This thread will only work, if people ONLY STATE WHAT THEY KNOW FOR CERTAIN VIA PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. No, "I heard this", "a mate reckons", etc. And no-one asks questions in the thread other than to clarify a specific point. I am keen for a thread like this, though my interchangeable experience lies mainly in AE86's so shall say little and watch with interest. Report
April 14, 201016 yr Author comment_429736 Well Parrot maybe you can start a thread in the AExx forum, Yeh it would be good if people only list the things that they have 1st hand experience using. Thankyou Report
April 14, 201016 yr comment_429743 Anyone here know anything about AE82's  AE70 and I were actually going to do this 3 years ago with the cars, Kinda like a gregory's manual but we were always too busy and never got around to it. Shortly I am going to be doing an AE82 single cam to twincam conversion guide/walkthrough but that is when I pick up the car. - 4age RWD, If you have the RWD waterpump and alternator setup and aren't bothered running the heater or throttle body cooling then an easy way around this is to use the rwd 4ac bypass pipe and an AE82 4age rear water housing and use a 90 degree hose between the 2. - AW11 mr2 - The internal airbox resistor that always fails is also the same as an AE82. - Celica & MR2 Springs, ST162 through to ST205 rear springs are the same as AW11 rear springs. If we are going to do a categories then I will add more in there. Report
April 14, 201016 yr Author comment_429748 Sorry Trev but this is in the kexx section so if you want to start a thread about the AE82 maybe try starting one in the AEXX sub forum, thanks Report
April 14, 201016 yr comment_429756 - A KE70 manual gearbox WILL bolt into all K series Corolla's, but will require changing the extensionhousing to an earlier model item as the shifter positions are different. Don't have to swap extension housing if the ke3x/5x is an auto (they have the hole back a bit in the right spot for the ke70 box). BUT, only the early ke30 has the 2 mounting points for the transmissions. Late '30 and '55 has only the mounting points for the original transmission used in the car. Or you can just cut the hole as needed. AE86 Sprinter struts bolt into a KE70. TE72 (T-18) struts <snipe> bolt into KE70. Urm, yes and no. Yes they do bolt in but no they will not bolt onto the ke70 steering arms along with the top hat bolting onto the body of the car. You'll need the steering arms from the donor car and use the top hat from the ke70. Its the same for the ke3x/5x. And if you've only picked up the struts from, say, the t-18 and forgot the steering arms you can use t-18, ae86, corona to name a few. They also share the same shock absorber And yes  i agree with parrot - No hearsay stuff, fact. And if something interchangeable had to be modded to fit, please add what had to be done saves confusion etc I say pin it and let the interchanging begin..... Edit - woops :( Edited April 14, 201016 yr by towe001 Report
April 15, 201016 yr comment_429797 Here's a start. - KE1x, KE2x, KE3x manual gearboxes are the same. Only difference is shifter angle/lengths, which can be swapped with correct one. Not quite correct. Ke10 boxes have a shifter further forward than the 20's. There are 3 locations of shifters, ke10, ke20/30/55 and KE70. There are also different output shaft splines but I don't recall the specifics. - A KE70 manual gearbox WILL bolt into all K series Corolla's, but will require changing the extensionhousing to an earlier model item as the shifter positions are different. Not necessarily, just cut a hole. SOME. - there are also different engine mounts between earlier models, KE10's differ from KE30's for example - 5K's have bell housing braces that clash with the steering drag link on earlier cars, particularly in KE10's. this is a difficult task and immediately we've hit a snag with our information. The only way to make this useful it to produce a chart, with the Car models on the X axis and the individual model parts on the Y axis. Otherwise this thread will become a nightmare of disinformation and arguments. No I'm not making a chart....... Not right now anyway. Edited April 15, 201016 yr by philbey Report
April 15, 201016 yr comment_429939 There are also differences between early ke20ish and later gearboxes. One bolthole on the drivers side is half a hole out. KE30 axles (Borg Warner) will fit in a KE20 with a small amount of shortening to convertto 4x114.3 stud pattern. Both Jap and Borgy KE30 axels can be used to do this as long as the KE20 diff matches. ie Jap to Jap, Borgy to Borgy Report
April 15, 201016 yr comment_429946 I agree with philbey, this thread is wrong. I can see a bit of misinformation so far which could lead a newcomer astray and cost them money. Report
April 16, 201016 yr Author comment_430124 Yes well I can't delete posts or edit them or anything but like I said I only wanted information that you can back up with first hand experience none of this "one thing is the same so it SHOULD work" I wanted info that has been proven to work. Report
April 16, 201016 yr comment_430251 Fact only post. 6/77 hardtop has both bolt holes for transmissions. not fact. Suspect that when the trimatic came toyota had to stamp 2 different floor plans hence only the bolt holes required. in the similar vein 2 mk II escorts. Autos had a bigger tunnel. As pointed out a graph is needed in this thread...does it fit? what car? etc! Report
