Mitch-12 Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 microtechs are shit get a haltech more money upfront but cheaper to tune easier and much better quality if your gonna go microtech may aswell do a diy jaycar kit cause there shit trust me go haltech Quote
cuzzo Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 Microtechs are fine. You pay for what you get. You will need all toyota sensors and plugs and the ecu to have a base 4agze map already configured and installed from microtech. Quote
Benny88 Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 i have a microtech, it depends on what you order. you get the ecu and a short loom about 20cm of wiring, the lt series are laptop tunable but you need to buy a laptop adapter. you can also get a hand controller for your dash or glove box so you can tune on the run. they come with an inbuilt map sensor that works to i thing 15psi but this is upgradeable. i am not really sure about how they compare to other brands but i suppose it depends who you ask. the rx7 and et/exa pulsar crowds love them. ke70dave Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 the rx7 and et/exa pulsar crowds love them. apparnetly this has something to do with the fact that when microtechs first came out they were compatible with the standard series 4/5 CAS. so they got quite popular because they were easy to adapt. didnt have to change much. this is all hearsay from a mate of mine who is into rx7's. so could be all rubbish. mitch-12: any evidence to support your statements? beerhead Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 LTS will need external igniters, LTX has them internally and they'll drive a coil directly. The biggest downer with a microtech is if you want to change do a different motor, they'll charge you $200 to rechip the ecu. With boost, they tune well, but with atmo cars most aren't impressed by how they tune up. That said none of my mates have tried to run one in years, as they've had a pile of bad rep, so maybe they work a little better now. I'm a big fan of the adaptronic ecu's, great bang for there buck, launch control, traction control, electronic boost control that you can set max boost in each gear to limit wheel spin too. People forgot though, it's all about keeping your tuner happy when you decide what ecu to use. Talk to people you know with modded cars and try to find out who's the best dyno tuner in your area and have a chat to them. Then get an ECU that they like to work with and you'll save a fortune in tuning. Quote
greenmac80 Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 microtechs don't have cold start function. which can be a real pain. Quote

Mitch-12 Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 yes i do we have our own dyno which is a late model dyno dynamics one we tune cars every day and microtechs are just shit they wont talk to the laptop and freeze and all sorts of shit happens just a pain in the arse they are that bad we don't even tune them anymore we tell people to go away motec is the best its what we have in our v8supercar its a m48 and we have secondhand ones for sale all the time and haltech would be the next best they are easy to use have better wiring and just work good Quote
philbey Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 (edited) mitch, do the Haltech user manuals have any fullstops? ;) Edited May 25, 2010 by philbey Quote
beerhead Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Adaptronic is 10 times the ecu of a microtech. With the latest firmware they do Volumetric efficiency autotuning which heaps of time on the dyno. None of this bullcrap charge you $200 for an update, you just plug in a standard pass through com cable (no crappy $100 dongle) and get the firmware off there webpage. Is the most powerful budget ECU on the market today. microtech when tunned right is just as good as haltech if you are going to throw that much money at a haltech throw in a few more hundred and get your self a motec ecu if you want to save money go microtech, adaptronic . when i took my car to the RTA to have an emissions test done i asked the tester if he had seen an aftermarket ecu pass he said the only one i know of is two cars with microtech so it is all in the tunning..if you need more info..http://www.microtechefi.com/microtech-products.php?product_id=6 Quote
