At the moment there are 7 cars at my house. 4 Toyotas...Dave's KE38 has landed! 1 Honda 1 Suzuki and the Valiant! The postie to top it off. Boo Quote

Bamboo Posted May 13, 2011 Author Report Posted May 13, 2011 I keep seeing threads started asking how much is it going to build XXXX engine. I've just finished my 4k, so I've done something I rarely do. Work out the exact price. I had some tools already, so I've only calculated the tools I had to buy. I also chose to build a second engine with a damaged sump, so that was also an extra expense. I could have built my own engine, but I chose to drive around with the old one while I was working. I utilised e-gay a bit, waiting for the right priced stuff to come up. Build time was around three months, but then it took me three months to extract a digit and fit it. Oh and as always, thanks for your help Dave. Engine $ 50 Sump $20 Sump gasket $20 Vrs $30 Pistons $70 Head machine $60 Valve lapping tool $12 Valve spring compressor $35 Welch plugs $12 Sealants $15 Paint $15 Total = $339 minus tools and engine block/sump = $222 Motor is now super quiet and smooth and has quite a good amount of puff. After run in, I'm going to give it some stick and see how it really goes. I've ordered a carby rebuild kit, so that's the next job. Bamboo Quote
Bamboo Posted January 27, 2013 Author Report Posted January 27, 2013 Speaking to a bloke recently who said he needed a new clutch. Said he had a 94 corolla. Seen enough of them so I thought I knew 'em. When I first saw it I thought it was a south african import. It isn't. It was imported by Toyota Australia. So it is very much like the KE50. Brought in alongside the aussie built stuff. It isn't at all bad to drive now I've fixed the clutch. Quote
Sampathd Posted January 20, 2014 Report Posted January 20, 2014 You got a nice car BOO! I'm in the process of building one! Quote
