I've just finished my 4k, so I've done something I rarely do. Work out the exact price. I had some tools already, so I've only calculated the tools I had to buy. I also chose to build a second engine with a damaged sump, so that was also an extra expense. I could have built my own engine, but I chose to drive around with the old one while I was working. I utilised e-gay a bit, waiting for the right priced stuff to come up. Build time was around three months, but then it took me three months to extract a digit and fit it. Oh and as always, thanks for your help Dave. Engine $ 50 Sump $20 Sump gasket $20 Vrs $30 Pistons $70 Head machine $60 Valve lapping tool $12 Valve spring compressor $35 Welch plugs $12 Sealants $15 Paint $15 Total = $339 minus tools and engine block/sump = $222 Motor is now super quiet and smooth and has quite a good amount of puff. After run in, I'm going to give it some stick and see how it really goes. I've ordered a carby rebuild kit, so that's the next job. Seen enough of them so I thought I knew 'em. When I first saw it I thought it was a south african import. It isn't. It was imported by Toyota Australia. So it is very much like the KE50.
