demuire Posted April 30, 2004 Author Report Posted April 30, 2004 Back from Pedders now, they couldn't do the alignment cause all the steering linkages (inner and outer tie rods, idler arm and pitman arm) need replacing. There's like a full 10mm of movement in the left wheel alone! Wow Jamie, how did you drive around with the car like that! Anyways, parts have been ordered ($300+ worth), should be able to replace the tie rod ends but might have to get them to replace the idler and pitman arms... Or... Rob, wanna help? :) *edit* Yay, managed to get all my parts for $221 instead (Good ol Fulcrum), as Pedders couldn't get me the parts till next week. Have pulled half the suspension apart, will hopefully get all the bits in before tonight. Have to wash Pinky sometime too... Car is booked in for wheel alignment again on Tuesday. Quote
Super Jamie Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 There's like a full 10mm of movement in the left wheel alone! Wow Jamie, how did you drive around with the car like that! yeah there was a bit of play in the steering. the ke25's in similar condition. its a 30 yearold car :) one day i'll get everything replaced and the steering box rebuilt, and it will be a lovely car to turn in as well as go forwards and up hills Quote
demuire Posted May 1, 2004 Author Report Posted May 1, 2004 Yup, pulled everything apart today and have replaced pitman arm, idler arm, and both inner and outer tie rod ends. Car is a lot better now, but wheel alignment is a dodgy home job so isn't fantastic. The new idler arm is so tight (toight loike a toiger) the steering wheel doesn't return anywhere near as quickly anymore, I need more castor :) Still need to replace the top swaybar bushes and then castor bushes, I couldn't undo either. Also flushed radiator and replaced thermostat, temperature seems better now. There's a rattle in the engine bay at idle and certain other speeds, if I push or pull the engine (block) it stops, I'm guessing something is vibrating agaisnt something else, but can't for the life of me figure out what it is... Also replaced wiper blades, they actually work now :D Now I just have to readjust the wiper jets... :D Quote
demuire Posted May 11, 2004 Author Report Posted May 11, 2004 Terratrip installed: It seems to work, when I spin the wheel (the car is still on stands) the numbers run so I assume it works :) Tomorrow will let the car down and see how to calibrate it (rob?) Also have noticed something strange, when I turn it off it counts one number (up). Is it meant to do that? Gearbox has just about shat itself, will be needing a new one soon :D I hate changing gearboxes... Quote
Medicine_Man Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 How much did the Terratrip set you back? What exactly does it measure? Quote
demuire Posted May 11, 2004 Author Report Posted May 11, 2004 Measures distance and time. Not sure what else it does, haven't really had a play. It set me back.. about $400+? I forget. Quote

andrew Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 yup. she'd have a little more than 0 rwhp Quote
20V_KE35 Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 demuire, during ur engine installation...did u need to knock or use ae86 original firewall. the engine just fit nicely right...cause me friend the ke2020 had to use ae86 original firewall.but i think that because his engine bay was too small...compare to ke35 it is equal to 86 (p/s: might be changing my mind again to prep my 3k) Quote
demuire Posted June 13, 2005 Author Report Posted June 13, 2005 Umm... wha? No, original firewall, didn't do anything to it except drill new holes for wires and stuff. Quote
Super Jamie Posted June 14, 2005 Report Posted June 14, 2005 in australia, if you visibly modify the firewall by cutting, welding, etc , your car usually gets defected and blacklisted so you can never register it again firewall modification is unsafe, and not necessary to put a 4age in any corolla Quote
demuire Posted May 20, 2006 Author Report Posted May 20, 2006 Had the Corolla weighed today, and it tipped in at 1010kg with about 40L of fuel in it. So, it would probably weigh in at about 995kg with half a tank of fuel (that's how the weight is usually quoted isn't it? With half a tank of fuel? If not then about 970kg with no fuel...) So yes, it's a bit heavier than I expected, but oh well. It has a KE55 drivers door, probably a few kilos there. The rear window mechanism can probably come out, since I can't wind them up or down anyway (cage in the way). And I'm sure I could take out a bit more with a hole saw if I really wanted to. Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 Do some custom speed holes like Homer did :) That isn't heavy anyway, you should be happy enough with that Quote
Redwarf Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 (edited) That sounds about right. That's what I'd expact mine to come in at. I understand it's quite hard to get them under 950 in the trim we need them... It still makes evo1's 841kg's look tidy though. :) Edited May 20, 2006 by Redwarf Quote
Teddy Posted May 20, 2006 Report Posted May 20, 2006 Look up weight reduction in the dictonary, its got a refrence to "a Tony and Chris Scott" Hahah, i need to see this beast again :) Quote
