BIG update guys!

So I went in today to tinker with the beast. I got in and the carby end of the setup was up shot creek, my mechanic had been at it. He claimed that he touched it and it basically fell apart due to loose screws/ nuts, etc. I thought he was playing funny buggers with me but he was dead serious, I thought this was odd because I had made certain that I checked everything twice over. After arguing for about 10 mins I got down to work.

Firstly, I started rebuilding the carby end and rebooting everything. Halfway through I realized a lot, and I meant a lot, of nuts and bolts had gone missing. 3 separate trips to autobarn, repco and bunnings, I finally got everything I needed.

After having bolted everything down I started on the accelerator cable problem as it turned out I didn't need that accelerator cable I received off of Ewt, thanks anyways fellas! We used a bolt with a hole and washer off a bmx. We made the hole slightly bigger by drilling it so I could fit the cable through. After that I filed and drilled the second hole on the sundial half circle throttle. I fitted the bolt to the accelerator cable, then to the throttle. We gave it a try and it failed miserably the first time! I tried again tightening it ad tight as possible and it worked. FINALLY!

Now that the accelerator was fixed it was time to get her running. I turned the key, the engine was turning but wouldn't kick over. I tried for like 5-10mins and nothing. I then realized that someone had flipped a killswitch, oh the pain! Success, at the cost of my choke! So now a replacement choke is required. We got the eninge running fine, I adjusted and tuned the carby to the best of my knowledge and took her for a test drive. POWER! The car went sideways with ease!

I got the car back and I noticed when I tried to flat-out floor it it would lag and try to stall. I think this may have something to do with the carby, I will get it looked at by a guy up the road who will tune it and possible jet it. I'm not sure of the problem. It runs for the moment that's all that is important at this stage! :)

I decided I wanted my ma61's fitted while I was at it. Let me just say WOW, they look amazing on the car! They fill the guards perfectly and have a perfect offset! Love em! Alas there was a problem of rubbing on the guards and I am now getting them rolled.

I have had a relatively successful day and am VERY happy with the progress. I cannot wait to get my 5k rebuilt and worked then blown!

To do list:

- get guards rolled

- get carby tuned and work out the throttle lag

- fit 5 speed

- 5k to be rebuilt and worked

That's all for me today guys I have pictures but am on my iPhone writing this! :P

If you guys have any pointers, suggestions or queries feel free to ask.

Cheers, Jake.

Great man! Sounds like it has all payed off for you!

Id say the stuttering and wanting to stall are due to the fuel having such a long route to take before it hits the ports.

a good tune and rejet may solve some of the issues. Maybe look at a cold start/ extra injector setup where the EGR bolt on the intake manifold is. Give it a hit or 2 for cold starts or for some extra pickup :P

Your probably very right man, but it's running :D I will get it looked at tomorrow maybe as long as the fellas roll the guards, not keen on scraping my way there :P

So today's plan was to get the guards rolled so that the car was driveable. Easy task? Wrong! The rear guards were bogged to hell, but it HAD to be done. Unfortunately the guards got messed up, so now I'm looking at getting some panel beating in the very near future.

All these problems aside the car is driveable just don't look at my rear arches! :P They're held together with silicon at the moment. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the throttle lag looked at and/or the carby. It's been an emotional day but my baby is home!

If you guys know any good rust panel beaters let me know!

Cheers, Jake.

So today was kinda painful, I had the carby setup checked out by a carby specialist. He claimed that the carby wasn't faced the right way, which he suggested may fix it before he would jet it. So here I was off to have my charger to carby pipe modded so that the carby may face the right way. I hit up an exhaust specialist to have the carby mount refitted, the right way.

Whilst I waited a painstakingly long 3hrs for a 20 minute job, I decided to mod some of my rub prone guards. That took all of 10-20 minutes. Then I decided to fit my thermo fan. Another 30 mins wasted.

3 hrs later I went to get my part back... Which he did a 180 on making it the EXACT same way... Oh the pain! so I waited 30 mins for him to redo it the way I wanted. Took the part back to the workshop only to realise it was off slightly but there was no way I was going back AGAIN!

I fitted it all and I still have the same problem. I'm starting to think my engine may be buggered. I struggled to get it home due to how rich it was running and how much fuel was being pumped into the carby.

It's been yet another painful day, I think I need a break from all this bad luck and failure.

Chhwrs Jake.

Those statements are NOT connected, but I suppose if you don't fix the carb they will be! Raw fuel going into the motor wil wash the oil off the bores and destroy the rings.

So there is nothing wrong with the motor?? But the carb won't work properly.. Has the carb guy looked it it yet for float level and jetting?

I was gonna take it to him today but I helped my missus move houses and he was closed by the time I was done, so he's gonna see it on Monday. I was cruising with my mechanic, I mean flying, after he tuned it was going great. Then we went again 2 minutes later and it failed hard he reckons because I'm running the weber off a supercharger it needs bigger jets. So that's the next plan after that I'm out of ideas.

Went in for a short period to tinker with it today.

My mechanic must have been having a really shit day, he was going off his nut for no reason whatsoever, but that's not important. I let it run for about 10 minutes or so, walked away let it idle for a bit. When I came back there was some condensation at the bottom of the carby on the pipe, or so I thought! It was fuel! MORE problems. I'm trying to get it taken to the carby joint ASAP. Going to get it rebuilt again and bigger jets. Until then I have nothing important to mention apart from being very tempted to buy a KE35 Coupe and putting my drive train in that instead :P

Cheers, Jake.
