abbott Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 I've never had a problem with one wheel being flush n one being out but doesn't mean it's a huge problem, anyways I've read on here somewhere that ae86 shocks bolt straight in which means would be easier to get short strokes! Haven't tried to fit myself but worth looking into! Quote
13BT_KE20 Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 thats fairly normal, most passenger vehicles with solid rear ends i've seen have the diff offset a little. I forget what it is but there is a reason behind it. this is usually due to unequal length linkages and when the car is lowered it shifts the diff over. I run 5kgs front springs (too soft for my needs) and heavy duty shocks front, rear i run extra leaf pack plus a half rebound leaf to help stop axle tramp and heavy duty shocks. New front end will be stiffer front spring plus thicker front swaybar. For most people a 5kg will be plenty stiff enough, i have a fair bit more weight in the front of my car hence having to go with a stiffer front end set-up. I will be running short stroke adjustable shocks all round with the new set-up also Quote
coln72 Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 this is usually due to unequal length linkages and when the car is lowered it shifts the diff over. This ony really applies with coil sprung cars running a panhard rod to locate the axel. When you lower the car the diff gets pushed across. KE20's don't have this issue. And the KE20 we had issues with was standard height. 1 Quote
abbott Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 how stiff you reckon youll run on the front now ryan? looking something like 8kg? also may be keen on the 5kgs if you decide to sell. Quote

I think 8kgs will be too harsh, thinking 6-7kgs and a thicker swaybar will be a better set-up for my needs Quote
coln72 Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Yeah, most people tend to go too stiff in my opinion. If the tyres are bouncing off the road, you aint going anywhere. Trust me, a ke20 don't turn with the fronts in the air..... Was running cut down HZ V8 springs in it at the time. Quote

rockinrolla Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 (edited) with the ke20, buy a 2 inch lowering kit, repack the rear springs with an extra 5 leaves and have the 2nd leaf inverted, be sure to grind the leaf springs to the correct length so none of then are the same length, staggered, do not use the actual lowering blocks, the extra thickness of the pack will do that, VH commadore wagon pedders shocks will fit. the front is a set of king springs 2 inch lower than standard, I've been running this setup for the past 3 years and it has brilliant, the weight carrying capacity is increased and is still reasonably comfortable. If you are unsure send me your phone number and I will send some footage to show you what I mean.    leaf springs from any K series corolla will fit, I used springs from a ke55 and added them to the ke20 Edited May 31, 2011 by rockinrolla Quote
altezzaclub Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 rockinrolla do you want to put up a build thread that details your suspension work over the years?? It doesn't affect me directly, mine is KE70, but a lot of guys on here would learn from what you did, why you did it, and what all the failures were before you ended up with what you have.. Even if you detailed it our in this thread with some photos it would be good. cheers Quote
13BT_KE20 Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 What car did you get your extra leaf out from for you ke20, been searching round can't find one thatl fit a ke20 i had a complete new set made by industrial springs here in Adelaide at the same time i got 6kg front springs made. Mates rates roughly $400 which i couldnt complain about!!! RRP i think was about $600-700, this was a couple of yrs ago now Quote
ninja-philbo Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 ive been in/driven nathans or rockinrollas car many many times handles great is firm but still comfortable il be coprying his setup for my ke20 Quote
LXY-642 Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 any pics of what height the car sits at with that done? Quote
rian Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 I will be running short stroke adjustable shocks all round with the new set-up also Why do people say they're using a some kind of shock that sounds awesome but then never say what it is! I'm not having a go at you I'm just wondering, because I swear I always see people posting about shocks saying something like "oh get agx shocks, they fit well" and then not specifying what model it's out of or anything. Whyyyyyyyyyyy? Drop some knowledge people! Quote
