ketowagz Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 So been looking at getting into a ke70 for a while. plans fell through with getting one recently and got stuck with a Gti starlet. as a 4k is fairly underpowered i was thinking about a 4age conversion because everyone seems to do it and have alot of good things to say about the 4age of course a genuine rwd 4age is as rare and hard on the pockets I was thinking buying a Crashed/wrecked ae82 or higher model (seen some for $300) with a 4age standard and using that i know you'd have to cut and shut the manifold for it to run rwd. would the ECU be good for it? is the gearbox ok for it? what else would i need for a 4age conversion. hopefully my plan is some what do able. if there is anything that you think i should know e.g if it wont work or if i need more parts to complete it please let me know cheers  Quote

Jono.C Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 If you mean the gearbox from the ae82? No as it's FWD If you mean the gearbox from the ke70? No as they're different and won't work (cable clutch, bellhousing etc) The gearbox from a ae71 or ae86 is what you need. Plus with the 4age being fwd the distributor is in the wrong spot (hits the firewall) and the cooling/ water setup is wrong for rwd configuration. And if you do have a ke70 and not an ae71 converting becomes a lot harder. You need an ae71 crossmember and mounts, hydraulic clutch setup, pedalbox, tailshaft and fuel system etc. So wouldn't be as cheap/ easy as an ae71. Cheers Quote
ke70dave Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 Plus with the 4age being fwd the distributor is in the wrong spot (hits the firewall) and the cooling/ water setup is wrong for rwd configuration. Cheers only the 20v's, not the 16v's. 16v's dizzy sticks out the side of the engine. Quote
Jono.C Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 Oh, i was looking at a 4age 16v that my mate had at his house and the distribtor was at the rear of the engine? Quote
ke70dave Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 well the 4age 16v's all definitely have the dizzy out the side. http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/3/265/3881/25661940005_large.jpg you werent looking at a 4afe or 4afc? they are out the back. Quote

Ive done the conversion so if you have any specific q's you are welcome to send a PM my way. Quote
parrot Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 Nah it was for sure a 4age In that case it would have to be a silver or blacktop. Quote
