The last month has been very rushed so it's running 8kg springs up front and unknown cusco's in the rear and it's way to stiff. Once I get it over here and get to a few more track days then I can start adjusting things from there.

With that set up I have lifted the maonting point for the lower arms by 15 mm and I have also pushed the steering rack 20 mm forward to remove the issue of losing mechanical advantage on full lock.

Last thing to do for the front is source some ke30 lower arms and modify to gain extra track and there fore more lock.

here goes

basically this project started off as a random idea between mates after i had a family friend gifted me an unwanted starlet body. after a few beers were downed and some research was done we decide on the ej20t engine as a transplant, this was the choice as i had a gt wagonn as my daily at that point and a mate was doing work experience at Possum Bourne Motorsport and could get me a strong motor for a good price

i have no photos of the car when i first got it so basiccally this is where i started

basically i used a factory crossmember and i drilled throught the spot welds holding the mounting brackets to the main cross member.

i then put the blank cross member in and lowered the engine in to the desired position

this is what should have made me back out from this idea but i took it on as a challenge

so down the road i went to the local trade centre and got myself a sabre saw (reciprocating saw)

this picture shows how much i had to cut out

once that was all cut out then i got started on remaking the mounts for the cross member

had a wee accident with the chain block failin thats why the sump lookes the way it does

whilst trying to line the engine up i struck my next problem, the factory exhaust manifold hit the cahsis rail on the drivers side

so custom fabricated an other manifold that wouldnt clash in that same way

another issue arose with the turbo placement, brake booster? master cylinder?

thats some thing that i had in mind but thought hey why not do a floor mount pedal box? decision made! we will come to that later.

next up was the diff, found out a local guy shortedned hilux diffs so decided to go down that track, pics show for themselves why

  • 5 months later...

okay so my holiday to nz finished this weekend. has to be the best holiday ive ever had! car, cars, cars, panelbeating, oldschooling, yarns and the best bunch of GC's, oh and racing!

had a really good time catching up with lots of like minded mates. got the cahnce to do some work on the kp whilst i was in nz and as some of you know i even made it to pukekohe for some more testing!

first things first though i made it into gt refinishers to get a little more done on the underbody and a bit of strengthening done.

once that was sorted i got on to susing out the missing issue. first thig first was to examine condition of fuel and flow from the pump. fuel was stale and pump had shat itself proceeding taupo, very minimal flow! took the walbro out and sent it of to get tested, after a being mucked around slightly i decided to splash out and buy a newbie. put it in and attempted some minor street testing.

in doing this i needed a passenger to test for boost leaks as i swore it was to noisy inside the car, after a bit of mucking around i finally found that the intercooler had the mounting holes on the sides that went straight through to the inside of the intercooler,(doooooohhhhHHHHH) blocked them of then in typical subaru ecu fasion it was even worse. reset the computer then away we went, happy as larry! everything seemed all well and good and ready for the track!

basically it ran really well for 3 laps the would block the pre-filter to the pump so would do 3 laps then pit clean filter and head back out , so on and so forth till i was out of gas. all in all I'm very pleased at how well it went round puky considering i still had no rear brakes and was only boosting 5 psi. can't wait till next time round as i know what i need to sort the last few things out.

anyway, enough jiberjaba time for pics
