jturn180 Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 so I've bought myself a liteace running a 4k motor. I'm decking it out like a camper atm (a small camper) and taking it on a trip. i want to be able to charge my laptop, and possibly some other small appliances, so i thought id get an inverter to run off the 12v system. what i need to know is, will the little 4k alternator put out enough juice for this? if not, do i upgrade the alternator and to what? or do i run duel batteries? thankyou Quote
Jono.C Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 Have a look for Evan G's thread on putting vl alternator internals in a k series alternator http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/44935-4k-80amp-alternator-upgrade/ Quote
ke70dave Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 a chunky alternator will only help you out when you have the engine running though. look into dual battery setups, so you can have your "house" battery seperate to your "starting" battery. but you can charge them with the new chunky alternator. that way you can drain the house battery all you want, but then still have the starting battery to get you going in the morning. look at camping/4wd websites for tips on this, there are some funky systems you can buy to manage all this. Medicine_Man Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 Bigger alternator and dual batteries managed by a redarc smart start dual battery isolator.. Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 liteace running a 4k motor You gotta be kidding me! This thing will only go downhill and if you turn on the radio it will stall the motor! Surely its a 7K ???? Then the 1800cc will run a beefier alty, and I saw that you can upgrade the stock alty with half the bits off a Commodore I think it was... Quote
ke70dave Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 nah my dad had one of these. Column shift I believe. goes alright actually. from memory it went better than the ke70! Prolly more friendly gear ratios. Quote
clarkz Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Theres a great dual battefy kit on ebay. Brand is projecta and for the 150 amp kit is around $190 but in the shops your looking at around $300 for the same kit. Then just brought a deep cycle 105 amp hour battery. This is for my hilux btw. Medicine_Man Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Projecta is cheap shit, That is why I recommended the smartstart.. Quote
towe001 Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Bigger alternator and dual batteries managed by a redarc smart start dual battery isolator.. Thats the only way to do it properly if you want to be able to start the camper on a cold/freezing morning. so I've bought myself a liteace running a 4k motor. You gotta be kidding me! This thing will only go downhill and if you turn on the radio it will stall the motor! KM20 Surely its a 7K ????
