I know of black engine bays that were painted with pressure pack, they seem to have lasted the distance...

 

Whats it worth for this engine paint that people have mentioned in the thread, i've heard of it but have no idea of what it costs. Any help would be appreciated!

I used VHT 1200 deg paint on the extractors

Same people do paint for blocks at 600 deg

I don't remember the brand in the engine bay

yeah nah i havn't mate. i was assuming u didn't know about the stuff but if it doesn't work... then... thats gay! the cans say that it IS FOR exhaust manifolds so it would be a pretty pathetic product if it didn't stay on!

 

with that type of paint there is also a special baking method u have to do to get it to set properly, maybe thats what you didn't do? like half an hour of heat, half an hour cool down, half an hour heat, blah blah something something.

 

and yeah now that i remember it is 1200 degree celcius stuff... i was understating it!

 

Coventry auto parts sells the stuff, if you want i'll get a price and colour range for you (and me)

yeah, it does suck. i think the only way to get anything to stay on an exhaust manifold is to have them coated with either ceramic or jet-hot or similar

 

i reckon those glass bandage things, the heat wrap, would be a good idea

heat wrap does ruin the headers tho...

i used just off the shelf spray bombs when i painted daisy's block, never peeled, chipped, discolored, no probs whatsoever

i've found the engine paint chips easy and there's really no need for it, it'll burn off around the exhaust prts on some big v-:D but not on a k

Back to an earlier comment, 130hp = 97kW (divide hp by 1.341), 150lb/ft = 201Nm (multiply by 1.34). These figures would seem perfectly attainable to me from a 1.8L motor. It's what the current Corolla motor makes (plus more torque). But I've never had any experience with the K-series, so this is pure speculation.

Yeah out of interest, its the septone 1200 farenheit stuff that states it is "ideal for exhaust manifolds" and the VHT stuff just says its for 1200 farenheit. I am aware this doesn't prove septone stuff is better but yeah.

 

 

 

Bloke with 7K, are you running carbs on that motor? Did you choose to be rid of the EFI? Some specifics on your setup would be much appreciated :D

Bill is going to be running Twin 1.5" SU's (its actually his son Craigs car). Well that was the plan a month or two ago anyway when he had all the bits and pieces setup.

When he bought the motor, it had a single carby fitted. i think the previous owner did away with efi.

To be honest I'm hopeing for 140 to 150 HP

With the extractor paint I have had mixed result's

Cooking them after painting helps. Take all the

shelves out of the oven and shove them in.

Start at 50 and raise the temp 50 every half hour

to 300. after that the car will bake the rest.

It never hurts to try,

Guys.. my stepdads owns a exhaust business and you can get a pressure pack heat restant (big 14 hour day i can't spell?? i think.. :D ) paint for your extactors, but make sure you clean them very well. I maen REALLY well other wise its a waste of your time, the paint will come straight off.

don't use that glass/tape shit. it'll just screw your extractors right up. they will crack and break quickly..

 

i used a pressure pack paint on my engine bay and it seemed to work quite well. again make sure its very clean. only problem... there was a different colour betweel the pressure pack and the drum i bought for the rest of my car. prob the mixers fault. I'm not worried i like the outside better than the bay.

Yeah for sure i sandblasted my extractors then painted it with the high temp 1500F stuff no baking and its still on there now after 6months. Only problem is where the extractors were bumped when putting in the engine bay.
