Dowsett Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 hello before i get flamed ive searched the forums and google can't find anything that helps me. all i want to know is what model sierra shocks you guys are running? year, soft top or hardtop? etc.. the more info the better. I'm trying to order a pair in but autobarn keep ringing me saying they don't know which ones i want. also gabriel or munroe? they quoted me 100 each, is that decent? thanks in advance ^__^ Quote
rian Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 Holden Commodore VK-VS Sedan rear shocks > Suzuki Sierra shocks. Most people that I know of use commodore rear shocks and they were about half the price of the Sierra shocks last time I checked at Supercheap Auto. Also the Sierra shocks are too short to allow any decent droop according to about every thread on that topic that I have read on the internet. I'd get the VK-VS commodore rear shocks over the Sierra shocks, also if you want good ones get Koni, Bilstein, KYB AGX etc. Quote

Gabriel should be fine. From memory it's 1986-1992 Front shocks, can get them on eBay for around $140pair. Quote
Dowsett Posted January 5, 2012 Author Report Posted January 5, 2012 cheers for the replies. the car isnt for street use i want it stiff and cheap. i told them the year but apparently theres lots of different models so they keep ringing me back saying which ones do i want.... Quote
Grand Master of Awesome Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 Ask for a front shock from a 1984 Suzuki Sierra if they can't find it hang up and go somewhere else. Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 If you must get the sierras then get front shocks from a sierra/jimny. Most list Jimny not Sierra these days, however, you will have a low and unsafe car with next to no suspension travel and no droop, which just means when you're at the ragged edge you will skip off and lose contact with the road, which will mean you can't control the car and end up crashing. Popping the inside wheel into the air is a sign of a lack of droop, not a fast car. There is no substitute for quality dampers, and correctly wound springs, until you actually bother to get something decent sorted, you will never know. Not for street use!!!! Quote
Dowsett Posted January 5, 2012 Author Report Posted January 5, 2012 alright ill try again if not maybe commodore shocks are the way to go.. Quote
Evan G Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 what little redspirit said!^^ a member on here had a ksev with choppies and sierra shocks. it was dangerous! no droop. very twitchy and just wants to oversteer. (this was at 100kph :| ) rear end was rock solid. save your self $140 and just install metal tubing as shocks! do NOT recommend them. go commodore wagon rear shocks 1 Quote
Oh-KE Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 is this for ke70? he never said.. For wagons they are ok because wagons come with shorter one to start with. Got mine from pedders they said they would be fine and I like them but I wouldnt for sedans... Quote
Dowsett Posted January 5, 2012 Author Report Posted January 5, 2012 (edited) oversteer is the plan :) i got xf kingys from upullit gonna go halfies. just need get the front as stiff now! anyone know cheap way to get front as hard? i got xf spring for the front to diameter was close but gotta fit them tomorrow. its for ke70 sedan like i said guys, this car is by no means for the road, and I'm not gonna lie i considered welding two bars in haha. pyrohamish Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 (edited) Heres a list of gabriel shocks and lengths, I made for auszookers orginally. oops stuffed up attaching, apparently I can't upload an xls or zip http://www.auszookers.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=19743 Edited January 5, 2012 by pyrohamish Quote
ke70dave Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 ive driven an 86 with VERY low springs and sierra shocks absolute GARBAGE. not even for a drifto mobile....rubbish. for springs around the 4-6kg range, on the cheap, i recommend the wagon commondore shocks (KYB part number 343113). very good shock and a nice length, keeps the springs captive but allows for a good amount of suspension droop. also check this out on ebay atm: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/used-Toyota-Corolla-KE70-AE86-Sprinter-Koni-Yellow-suspension-Struts-Brakes-/180785015990?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a17a06cb6 those konis are the good stuff, check the lengths etc, but they might be a bargain at that price, would need a rebuild though. Dowsett Posted January 5, 2012 Author Report Posted January 5, 2012 do i have to make a account to see the spreadsheet pyrohamish? sounds perfect, stiff as. can't handle the body roll anymore and the car is way to aggressive when i try to link corners. that set up looks cheap and its close too, but can't wait for rebuild :) i just need to know the part number for gabriel of the exact shock i need would make it easy! thanks heaaps Quote
pyrohamish Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 yeah probably..there is a bit of 4k stuff on there though haha, quite common for the 4k carby to be swapped over on the zook motor. here it is for download, didn't think of it earlier doh! http://www.multiupload.com/X25F75ZNBN Quote
blktoy35 Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 i use kyb front sierra shocks on the back of my ke35, they are shorter stroke, my car lowered 2 inches hasnt given me any major issues.. very stiff, i agree not enough droop thou, can be issue on steep driveways if your on a angle...inner wheel of the ground lol Quote
