3rz turbo would be legal in a ke70 under the new rules, should happen more often imo.

 

As for the hilux diff, you use the whole thing, not just the centre. A really early rn20 diff is similar length to a ke70, but are very hard to track down, and are also known to have weaker axles than the later versions. If $$$ is not a big issuer probably better off shortening a later model one really, the later one is also more likely to come with the gearing you would need.

no it wont be, 940kg (ke70) x 2.7 = max turbo cap = 2538cc

Ive been thinking about this also. I believe it comes down to this: If the ke70 weighs more than 1000kg it will be 1000ccx2.75 and 2.7L turbo is ok, if the ke70 weighs less than 1000 kg (like 900 you end up with 2.475 turbo).

As we know there are many different luxury levels and options available within a single model so what Id like to know is this. Is there an accepted weight that everyone goes by or is an individual thing where you engineer makes you go to weigh station and check it?

If so, Ill just be borrowing a bunch of tractor weights from the farmer next door and heading to the nearest scales to get my 1200 car checked.

It would be nice if you can just go off the weight of the heaviest possible fully optioned ke70 :)

Other thing to bare in mind is having an engine like that will need a fairly chunky gearbox and diff....which will as weight. Would this get you over the line if you were a bit under the 1000kg you need to fit the engine legally?

That could work too, I guess it depends if they refer to the original vehicle weight or the new vehicle weight when its finished.

it refers to the original vehicle mass so fitting heaver motor and box to bring up the vehicle weight isnt going to work.

Now to find out what the heaviest "factory" Australian ke70 corolla sedan with standard accessories .

Engineers refer to the VSB14 which is what was made effective in QLD from November 2012,

 

TMR does say one thing, but you need an engineer to sign it off, it's not based on the most weight you can get out of it, there is a booklet of the weight of all cars they start the calculation

 

3RZ with a turbo will cause she development issues as you go, head bolts, sump and ancillaries,

 

Go a 1J, kits are available and plenty of support, if you have the money buy luke coys 8 sec ke10 in the for sale section

I sell bolt in 3RZ to KE70 kits, no firewall/tunnel mods

R150 gearbox fits in a ke70/ae86 tunnel too

No, real men go off half cocked then have to do stuff twice and sell other stuff at a loss :) . Its going to be NA so falls inside capacity guidelines.
