theres a product, or a few on the market, that once you go to bare steel, you treat it with. contains phosporic acid. stops the steel rusting for a few weeks. i used that, then etch primed, then primed within a few days. remember, water still soaks through the primer, so you need to actually get the car into proper paint sooner rather than later.

can't remember the name of the stuff now.

If you paint strip, the etch prime, which contains a very mild does of that acid, will leave a coating on the steel, and it will be less susceptible to rusting than sanding it.

ever noticed, a car thats had a big scratch put in it, the scratch rusts, but a car thats had a chunk of paint flake off, usually from dents, often hail damage, doesnt rust. thats the effects of the acid.

Most rust converters are phosphoric acid, some are tanic acid.
