Ok so i'm starting my 4k build soon and have read the tough 4k wiki many times and it mentions the 4k block with ribs that are stronger.Does anyone have a pic of the ribbed block for comparison ? I have a block here with small ribs under the welch plugs but i'm unsure if it is the correct block i want to use. google images isn't really helpful plenty of pics of 4k's but not much of that specific area of the engine. A decent amount of money will be spent on my motor and i don't want to throw it all away on a weak block.

Also i have found part numbers for ARP head studs on the net and already have ARP flywheel bolts but haven't been able to find anything on ARP rod bolts that work i have read talk of 3sge fitting but nothing confirmed does anyone know part numbers of anything known to fit? they are probably unnecessary but i'd rather build it once right and have piece of mind knowing it will hold together.

Thanks! i didnt come across that thread in my searches.

The motor i just pulled from my car has a crack in the block and was leaking coolant but still ran fine i will have to check if its ribbed or not

when I get time ill upload some pics of the blocks the japs use, pretty sure if youve got a late model ke55/ke70 block u should be ok or any block none the less as long its in good condition...

Only time i ever split a 4k block ribbed or not was because the rods came out of it!! Theyre almost indestructible with the right bits and tune in em,

ps the one that threw no2 rod out of it still got me the last 30 kms home on three lol.... dooonk dooonk dooonk

Checked the block I'm going to use and its the ribbed one so i can move forward on the build.

All the right bits are going in this motor so i didnt want to throw them away on a block that can crack easily.

Anyone know anything on the rod bolts?

I vaguely recall something about 4age ones fitting, might be worth investigating further.

Just a small update on this

found that 4k rod bolts have identical part no. as toyota 1g motors so I'm going to look into if you can get ARP's for 1g motors

Bang for buck your better off buying spool rods.

I'll rough cost it(recoing yours)for you, so you can see why they are cheap.

ARP rod bolts: $80-100.

Having them fitted: $80-100.

Resizing big end: $100-120.(this is a must as the extra clamp/torque load of the bolts can distort the big end)

Small end bushes: $30.

Fitting and pin fitting bushes: $50-90.

So at a minimum your looking at $340 and that's before you even look at linishing or shot peening them. Then also don't forget after all that money, they are still a 30+ year old part.
