sam515 Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Hey guys just wondering how i can tell if i have abs brakes. There is no abs light on the dash of my ae92, but i need to order new cv shafts and need the right ones. besides the light is there any other way to easily tell? Thanks Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Stomp them brakes. Try to lock it up. Quote
mattdat Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Look for an ABS unit in the engine bay. Boxy looking thing with brake lines coming from it. Or lock the brakes up and see if ABS activates. Quote
springersrolla Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 keep doing situps, theyll turn up eventually 1 Quote
sam515 Posted November 20, 2013 Author Report Posted November 20, 2013 well I'm pretty sure i don't have them, got the wheels to lock up, there was no light on the dash, and i thought maybe they didnt have the light on ae92 corollas. Quote

love ke70 Posted November 22, 2013 Report Posted November 22, 2013 you can also check for the wire going down to the sensor at the end of the CV. Quote
Mudgy Posted November 28, 2013 Report Posted November 28, 2013 ABS sensors are like a proxy switch. At the wheel side of the CV shafts, look for a metal daisy wheel that rotates past a sensor switch (cylindrical type of sensor) The disc has slots that pass by the sensor. This allows the computer to "see" pulses. Under brakes (brake light switch on, speed sensor "seeing" road speed) if the pulses disappear (brakes locked up) then the ECU will allow the modulator(the box with brake lines coming out of it) to regulate the braking pressure. This is a simple principle that applies to al vehicles with anti brake skid systems (ABS). Cheers Mudgy Quote
