Well I thought I'd start a new thread for this AE71 I bought a few weeks ago. It was in a bit of a front to rear prang with the previous owner unfortunately so a little bit of 'extra' work I originally didn't want to encounter in a build up will be needed. I bought a damaged car as opposed to straight because it came up at the right price. Those of you who know I have a daily driver AE71, don't get it confused with this car.

The right hand chassis rail has a minor kink (level with rear gearbox cross-member) in it which will need fixing

This is the engine I bought a while ago, it will be undergoing a full rebuild and being pointed in the right direction.

oh and i had a look at that box you made up and fitted speakers into. And mounded in front of the gear stick, that is a bloody good idea, nice job ;)

The motor has 1 (non visible) slight bend in 1 of the valves, and therefore was only doing a half rotation when turning the crankshaft, as the valve was stuck open and hitting piston #3. I think i paid $350 or $400 (can't remember was last year).

Theres gotta be a word for that, old skool car with an older skool front end. should look good though.

 

Now you have a project you should look for a second job cause they love the money, mine does anyway ;)

so how is this beast coming along?

Last week I pulled the engine out of the engine bay, it will be going in to my daily driver as it's done 70,000 less kms and has new bits and pieces like water pump, fuel pump clutch etc..just gotta buy a new clutch master cylinder and a thrust bearing.

 

So my daily will be back to its V6 commodore pwnage self again :P

 

As for further work on the car itself, not doing physical work on it for a while. The car has been taken to my brothers property for now to await the work. As space is scarce around home while my brothers AE86 is getting an engine rebuild, and dad is re-building his HD Holden ute, I will be buying up on parts for the rolla in the mean time.

 

Estimated costs to come...

-Another donor early front KE70 (can be a rear smashed vehicle, don't care as long as it's cheap)

-Twin headlight front parts from NZ, including headlight surrounds, buckets and stone tray (estimated $200 i hope :y: )

-Front and rear chrome bumpers (estimated $300ish)

-E30 BMW aftermarket "Angel Eye" kit $475

-Couple of grand for engine machining work on the 4A-GE and this is all new to me so I have no idea on price but know 2K is a good start (Brother has spent heaps on his 4A-C ;) )

-Aftermarket cams $400

-TRD copy extractors $300

-Will also be spending over $1500 on stereo this time around

-Want to get a JL Audio 300W 8 inch sub from the states which isn't available here

 

I'll leave it at that for now it's starting to look scary :P

Oh and...

 

-Konig Rewinds 15X7, 0 offset about $1K

-Tyres for the wheels $800 at a guess

-Undercoat

-Paint from a new Mitsubishi Colt (Butterscotch / Light Yellow) $?

-Materials for the re-trimming of seats, door trims and new carpet $?

Fr beaver panel with twinheadlight cut out - $50 if you can find one

Twinfront headlights + Grill = $100, same as above (Trademe.org)

4 x working ADR LEGAL headlights = $100?

Wiring to suit (Got auto lec?) = $2 hours labour

Front and rear bumper mounts = $haha, I'm still searching the world :y:

Front bumper indicator lights = $as above statement

Chrome bolts to suit bumpers = No longer made anywhere in the world, and NZ, AUS and JPN don't have any left. Ke30 / Ke55 trial awaiting test.

Bolts to suit mounts to body = $hardware store, custom.

i got a quoted 50 bucks for a set of propper crome bolts to suit bumpers for a t-18!

yeah, maybe a T18 set would work as well.. I'm currently focusing on trying to find mounts -> after i get the mounts, then it will be onto bolts.

If your building a car up, NEVER add the recipts together. They tend to rack up quickly :y:

You'll lose your spirit if you keep adding them together.
