I've been talking with ryan(slo-030) through pm the last week or so and i thought I'd copy it down here for my sake and anyone else thats interested mostly good, I just got back from having my eye cut open for the fourth time in 8 months... |blink| Still working out the internals for my 3rz turbo, I've got the crank, pistons and rods sorted out, looking into valvetrain, cam and head combinations now, pretty well set on the manifold and turbo, need to source a bellhousing clutch and decide on a transmission. Then comes the fun part, fuel/spark management and wiring :hmm: I think I've scored a big Setrab oil cooler for 10% of retail, belonged to a Nascar team, never used. I guess driving in circles is good for something, it makes high end race parts dirt cheap when the team goes out of business I think I found W59 trans cheap, very similar to w58 with a different 5th gear, out of a 2wd 97 Tacoma. I probably can score the diff too, I think its the same setup as curly but he might be using a 8" diff out of a hilux/T100. And since it's a later W trans it has the stronger synchros and steel midplate, IIRC early W58's had aluminum midplate, only 1 or 2 years of the supra trans had the steel plate. I'll have to ask at the wrecker if they have a 2wd 8" axle Thanks for the diff info, I'll be using a locker. Supposedly the w58 5th is the same as the w57or56 and can be swapped into the 59(edit: I realized this is wrong), i'll look into it more later if 160-170mph just isn't cutting it :D i think it will work out a little better but i'll have to see. the short answer is Yes..

And this is why I daily drive a rusty, beat, wrecked, ugly, 1984 Audi 4000s quattro Typ 81. 30 years after its introduction, pound for pound, dollar for dollar, it is still the greatest drive system ever developed. I lack the turbo of the the quattro coupe, and it is sorely missed, but the car responds like a underpowered gocart should, flat footed. Rain, snow, sand, mud, asphalt, tarmac, none are of any concern; what and steer. just my $0.02 oh and screw dancing with the ladies, I want my feet to do

Until recent medical issues, I was employed as a VW/Audi tech for a local independent shop . We built this 1987 VW GTI with a 98 Jetta VR6 swap, Porsche GT3 interior and a few other modifications. Through a few contacts, Matt (my boss) arranged a photoshoot and feature for Eurotuner Magazine while at a Waterfest 15, one of the largest watercooled VW shows in the states. Do you guys get Eurotuner in Australia? Everyone I worked with put in 12 hour days in the shop and 4-8 hours at night. The car was built slowly over a few years, and then gutted, full spray job, detailed and reassembled in 30 days. I don't believe it's mentioned in the article, but this would not have happened without my coworkers and friends Tom and Travis. Arias 3RZ pistons are only available in .020"/.50mm oversize and have an approximate 8.5:1 compression ratio. :D I thought it was just me I have a few: axle shaft inside a pipe, great for popping steering links loose, strategic hammering, and the like. wiper blade metal inserts ground down to various shapes, heated and melted into a small screwdriver handle in pairs, mostly used for to release VW/Audi Wiring connectors from the socket toothbrush handle ground down to a chisel point, use like a pick or flat blade without scuffing, would make a great prison shank too! Not really a tool but I almost exclusively use stainless steel commercial counters, shelving and sinks, I have an automated dish washing line without the machine as my parts washer/ engine table, They tend to be heavy, sturdy and are very easy to clean, and dish lines have a 4" raised ledge

Yeah bumper laws here are a joke, I've been looking for a te27 bumper or something else thinner. Luckily; I live in an area without emissions, safety inspection, nothing at all, so swapping Euro, JDM, or any Rest of world stuff is easy. The engineer process you guys have is actually intriguing to me. I highly doubt my engine swap would make it through.
