  1. Hey mate, I am also currently working on a 3TC however I don't have a 2TC head to confirm. I would imagine it would be compatible and give you a nice little compression boost. The best guys to speak to would be 3tcgarage.com when they finally get back up online. Cheers
  2. Chick driving white KE10 around Cooly today. Saw you twice, I had white KE25.
  3. White KE10 with red interior - Stalked you through the car park at Newmarket shops. Had a rollaclub sticker on back window. Tidy little car ;)
  4. Bruce, Thanks for the info. Always nice to hear other peoples reports on businesses used prior to purchasing from them . Sometimes we have good results, and sometimes not so good, but again great to have the information upfront before falling into a potential trap that someone else may have already experienced. Once my engine is at the machinists, we will talk about the direction I want to go in and work out the best build to suit my requirements. Once that has been done we can start deciding what parts I need, and who best to supply them. Good luck in your searches for the rocker lock. Also worth talking to Pete about his brass distributor gears. I think if he can get enough interest he will have a few made up. I know I am interested. Cameron
  5. Bruce, another good source. http://www.euroexportinc.com/store/3tc/valve-train-components/toyota-2tc-3tc-rocker-arm-shaft-collars-10014.html
  6. Bruce, I have also had no response from them, nor can I find any 3TC stuff on their website. BRD do have the rocker locks. http://brdracing.com/3tc_valvetrain.htm You can also try psiracing.com or paradiseracing.com 3TCgarage forums should also be able to point you in the right direction. Speak with BOBLOOK or NME308.
  7. I don't think low or even mild boost should shorten the life of the engine if it is built correctly and looked after! A high compression, high revving engine would surely see a much shorted life span!! Tighter tolerances, more wear and harder working. Running a mid sized turbo, with a "turbo" cam shouldn't see the engine having the need to work anywhere near as hard as an n/a engine. I have done a fair bit of research and spoken a lot with Pete "KE20rally" who is running approx 145rwhp in his rally car, and that is a n/a 3TC. A lot of work and money and breakages have gone into that engine, lol. On the other hand NME308 seems to have had a lot of success running a blow through setup on his 3TC, and the story is pretty much the same across the board on 3TCgarage forums. I wanted more than anything to build a tough n/a but it just doesn't seem to be the right way to go for me. All the same, good luck with yours and enjoy it! Cameron
  8. Sounds good mate. Can't wait to see it on the road. I finally managed to find a 3TC locally so the build begins! So many other bits and pieces to find as yet though. Have decided after much deliberation and talking to other members with na T series engines, that I am going to do a blow through turbo setup. Less money required and much more reliable. I am pretty confident I will be able to get some good horesepower out of the engine without spending ridiculous amounts of money. Apparently standard bottom end is good for upto 300hp, so I have read on 3tcgarage.
  9. Thought there would have been a few more rolla's there!!
  10. Whats the worst that can happen? Turned down two years in a row :ban:
  11. I will keep an eye out. Shouldn't be hard to spot amidst the sea of Falcons and Commodores :wootjump:
  12. What do you drive buddy? I might see you there.
  13. Just curious if RC will be representing there or if anyone else is going? Fair play that our cars are Jap, but there were a few Mazda's and other sorts their last year. Hell, I even took my old M3 though they wouldn't let me take it on the track :(
  14. KE20Rally, I am impressed with your engine build. So many questions, where to start. What size bore do you have, I know the 3t's can go to 89mm but I was thinking 88mm to err on the side of caution. I don't want to risk having a porous block by cutting too far. Intake and exhaust valves sizes. Do you run double valve springs or a stiff single? Standard rods or forged / lightened? Have any of the parts been balanced / lightened? What does the engine rev to comfortably and what is the powerband like? What is the idle like? What size carbs? Standard oil pump & water pump safe to run? How do you find the setup in the 20? I notice it is sitting quite hard up against the firewall. I assume the standard T mounts will have it positioned in the same position. The carbs look like they only just clear the booster? What is the weight distribution and handling like? Being a rally car I imagine it must be setup quite well. Any ideas on what sort of hp this set up is producing? Sorry for all the questions but it is the only way to learn! If there is information there you don't want to divulge please feel free to disregard. Cheers, Cam
  15. Agreed a turbo can be "slapped on" however I am still not sure this is the path I want to go down. I have had a KE70 with an SR20DET and a KE30 with an L20B with twin 42's - Guess which one I preferred? The L20 :) I have been around the traps enough times to understand that a mild street cam and 32/36 weber are not going to give me the power I am chasing. I do plenty of research on many forums including 3TCGarage, Toymods etc.. There are some pretty smart guys out there who know what they are talking about when it comes to these engines and there is lots to be learnt from them! I could try and build an n/a engine locally and for sure it would cost me an arm and a leg - guaranteed. The engine from BRD comes with twin 45mm webers fitted, exhaust I am not bothered as they can be made locally for quite cheap and to suit the car. Essentially it is a complete engine.
  16. Dave, I guess looking at $5500 as an upfront figure does seem steep however if that was the end result of a build project over time it would more than definitely seem worthwhile. If it is going to be done right the bills can add up extremely quickly. Just to buy a set of twin webbers and a stock engine alone is pushing $2000, and that is without touching a thing. No head work, cam, valves, springs, rods, pistons etc.... and the list goes on..... I do see your point though. Ian, BRD are probably the most reputable and well known dealer when it comes to 3TC engines. I have spoken with the owner many times and requested a comprehensive parts list of what is included with the package. And yes, I would also ask for dyno sheets to prove the power output.
  17. Agreed and disagreed - Whilst a turbo will always be the better option for serious horsepower, its more than likely not the path I will go down. I want the angry grumpy sounds of the twins hanging off the head. 200hp 3tc n/a can be bought off the shelf ready to go for $5500 plus shipping. The costs involved of building a turbo engine would surely exceed this figure, however they may also have a turbo version available off the shelf.
  18. Styler, thanks for the info. I could not find a confirmed weight for the KE25 anywhere. Lots of different versions out there but as to what QLD Transport go by, I am not too sure. How were you able to find that particular weight? As for engines, I think I will stick to a modified 3TC as opposed to building a hybrid.
  19. Might have to be turbo then - still all up in the air but lots more research to do at this stage.
  20. Cheers guys, think I will run the 3TC for ease of things and availability of parts.
  21. Ian, with drive train loss I think 140hp is pretty much on the money. My old KE30 with 92hp at the wheels still scared a lot of standard v8s and turbos. It was a pretty quick car for what it was. 140hp in a KE25 would be pretty damn quick in my eyes!
  22. ok, BRD or EuroExport for any 3t parts BRD quoted USD$5500 for a 200hp 3tc with twin 45mm Webbers. 200hp is achieveable from both the 3TC & 2TGEU. There was a fella by the name of Sean Maloney who used to build some serious 2TG engines. Go down the turbo route as the Puerto Rican's do and hp is limitless. They have the 3TC's running 7's, if not 6's down the 1/4 mile. The only limit I guess is money. Forged crank and piston kits can be bought for about $700. Personally I think I will be going the 3TC option, taken out to 89mm bores. Plenty of durable valve train gear available from both of those websites.
  23. Ian, Still undecided as to whether I use the twin cam 2tgeu head or 3t head. 3tc bottom end is a given at this stage.
  24. I have seen NME308's setup and although it looks quite agricultural (no offence intended) it was quite bulletproof, had a lot of engineering thought go into it and worked very well. Kudos to him rather then going the typical nissan twin cam route!
  25. Lucky bugger, i moved over to the UK for 5 years so sold everything off. Now starting from scratch again :(
