That a Carina front end?

Fixed. I knew a couple of guys who turned up to the last lecture of the year with an Esky and a couple of long-necks And another time (same subject, different people), we had a 2 hour lecture where the first hour was revision for a test, and the second hour was the test. Bunch of my mates spent the first hour studying the bottom of schooners at the bar, rocked up to the test completely off their faces.

2001 Ae112r Sportivo Carolla Turbo Mods
Hiro Protagonist replied to africanmarty's topic in AExx Corolla Discussion
Considering the Sportivo Turbo was only ever sold in Australia, I doubt it. -
You can get heatproof engine enamel clearcoats....

Car Acts As If Has Dead Battery, With Charged Battery
Hiro Protagonist replied to p0rt's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Good way to find out if you have a major leak in the heater core is to give it a good hard flush with a hose, making sure there's a good seal so you can build up pressure. That way, if there is a leak it's cool tap water, not hot coolant that dumps into your passenger footwell. Then again, some heater cores only leak when hot coolant under pressure flows through them, which is why it is better (but more expensive) to get it pressure tested at a radiator/cooling place. -
If it's the air-con bit, it's the evaporator....

No, the most visible colour in the spectrum won't draw any attention at all, especially when highlighted against the least visible....

Never had any trouble with Optus signal/reception in NSW, apart from NYE, but I've heard multiple people saying it's crap in Brisbane. I'm fine with staying with Optus for the moment, still on 2G pre-paid and I don't need anything more.
-
3TGTE would be reasonable, but parts are getting rare/expensive, plus they're an old EFI engine when compared to a 4A, which works against it. Something like a CA18DET would be a good turbo medium, except that it's not a Toyota
-
It's not intended to, and I didn't say it would. But, you will end up with a car with approximately 100kw/tonne at the wheels, light and nippy with good handling, and the conversion won't break the bank either. What I'm trying to say is that going from a 4K AE71 and 2T TA22 to a 1JZ or 13b turbo is a massive step that shouldn't be taken in one go, rather broken down into smaller, easier, safer ones. Unless it's only going to be a drag or burnout car, a 4AGE will provide more than enough power for fun times. And if you want something more, just drop a GZE straight in, just as much effort for better results and it'll still be relatively sane (plus providing turbo path once you get used to it) Factory manners mean nothing when you have 200kw in a short-wheelbase 1-tonne car, thats about the same power-to-weight ratio as a HSV W427. For an inexperienced driver, that's tree-hugging potential if ever I've seen it, and I don't mean the hippie-kind of tree-hugging either.

No, you don't seem to be understanding. If anything, the brakes should go in BEFORE the 1JZ (most likely they'll have to anyway, just to get it engineered). If there's one thing you don't want it's an over-powered, under-braked car. And trust me, a TA22 with a 1JZ WILL be over-powered, let alone a 2JZ. You're comparing the 1JZ and the 2JZ like their the shallow end and deep end of a pool - once you've mastered the shallow end you can stump up the courage for the deep end. Except in this case, they're the shallow and deep end of the DIVING pool, where even the shallowest bit is 4 metres deep. Walk before you can run dude, walk before you can run. Get something like a 4AGE in there first, more power than the 2TG, a ball to drive, but still relatively calm to drive and a good handler. THEN look at something bigger/with a turbo.

Well all the sh*t is hitting the ceiling at the moment with the Vodafone/Hutchison merge. Then again, 3 wasn't exactly reliable in the first place....
-
I was referring to the "i want to still drive it on the street and not kill myself within a week of having the car running again" comment. A 2JZ will be scary fast. A 1JZ will be a tiny bit less scary fast, but still scary fast. Either one easily has the capacity to spear you off the road at an extremely high rate of speed.
-
Not exactly a movie, but the first question of Part 2 of my DQT test involved turning right at an intersection, first car that came across was a blue KE30....
-
So you reckon a 2J will be too powerful but a 1J won't be? It's still a freakin' twin-turbo straight six, from factory they made roughly the same power (due to crappy Japanese-gentlemen's-agreement 206kw limit).

Bog-job FTW.

Decided to do breakfast for a change instead of dinner (first time that Valentines Day has been on a weekend for us), so went out for a nice breakfast in Darby St, dropped by my house on the way under the pretext of grabbing some clothes, surprised her with flowers (half-dozen white roses with a single red in the middle) and _two_ cards (running joke), after breakfast basically spent the rest of the weekend in bed watching movies and playing the 360 due to the weather.

The "omg Guess What Happened Today" Thread
Hiro Protagonist replied to JiP's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
Not exactly today, but got my blacks on Friday, opens up a whole new world of awesomeness: 1) No more being identified as a hoon P-plater 2) Can remove ugly P-plate holder brackets from car 3) Can go 110km/h on the freeway, which is now only 20km/h slower than everyone else does anyway 4) Can have a brewski or two and not worry about being over the limit. In fact, it was less than 3 hours after my test that I drove with what would have been an illegal blood alcohol level under P-plate laws, but now that I'm regarded as a normal member of society, it's perfectly acceptable (would have been .01 or .02, barely even notice it) Scary thing is, the next time I have to renew my license, I'll be 30 *shudders* -

240K, blergh. -
Definitely been wired up wrong, I had a similar problem when I bought the KE55, the headunit would sometimes cut-out when you hit the indicators, and it would turn on if you put the hazards on, even with the car turned off and the key removed. Stupid idiot who had wired it up had used the wrong wire for the power, had tapped into the indicator circuit instead of the ignition circuit (same coloured wire though, so it's kinda understandable)
-
AFM/MAP are made redundant via the carbies though, right? From memory, you can modify a 4K distributor to make it suit the 4AGE, and thus bypassing the ignition problem.
-
G/f is on here occasionally, less-so since we sold the KE55 and she got a full-time job, although she's still in the Corolla community via an AE82 Twincam Seca.

MA61 wheels are 14x7, +8 offset, and normally run something like 225/60 tyres, but the ones I had were 195s (can't remember the aspect ratio), much better for a smaller lighter car.
