Ke55 R Coupe On Ebay
KJ's Rollas replied to ke30corolla.coupe's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
Ahh no, the compliance plate was off the Blue Liftback - as you would see in the E-bay item description if you have a look! Cheers KJ :hmm: -
Ke55 R Coupe On Ebay
KJ's Rollas replied to ke30corolla.coupe's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
Ok, to clarify all of that.. the Blue liftback on E-bay is a KE50 shape, but it's technically the update version of the KE50, so they called it a KE55R. It's practically the same as a KE50 other than the fact that the KE55R Liftback update (the blue one on E-bay) has a rear windscreen wiper (very handy), a different grille on the front, and a trip meter on the dash. Everything else is identical to the KE50, so when looking at it, yes some of you are correct in saying it is a KE50 shape, but it's technically a KE55R model (1979 make) and a genuine import yes, and a rare car indeed! Pity this one on E-bay has rust, but the panels all look straight and it would be worth it just for the factory 5 speed which will fit any 70's KEXX corolla and the factory tacho dash also! Cheers KJ :hmm: -
Fantastic! Thanks for that guys! KJ.

Will mazda rims fit corolla KE30? My mate has a set I was going to grab off him and he thinks they are 110mm x 4 but he's not sure.. Just interested, caus I know KE30 corolla rims are 114.3 x 4 so I was just wondering if anyone has fitted Mazda rims and if anyone know exactly what size PCD mazda rims are? Cheers KJ

Cheers for that great info, all I need now is a second hand aircon unit! Anyone know of any, let me know. Cheers KJ :)

That is wierd as! Never noticed - mind you, there aren't too many Cressidas around these days either! Even the side indicators look the same as the KE50! That's very Intriguing! KJ.

Tom ('KE50') is right, such a versitile car! I can't wait to get my KE50 project going - There'll definately be pics on here for sure! The most unique things I like about the KE50 is the factory 5 speed, the factory tacho and sports dash, the cloth seats (more comfortable than my mates VX SS Commodore) and the Pillarless doors - they are most unique (as you can see in the pic of Tom's "KE50"'s white one) - A very unique and rare feature on a corolla, especially in Australia (Pillarless doors resemble the american yank tanks) - and they actually did make the KE50 for the American market - at that time of the 70's when the fuel crisis was on in America, & so that's why it's built tough the way it is and resembles american cars more than any other Corolla! So I can't stress enough how rare and unique the KE50 is and how I really think you should keep it and do it up! KJ :)

Yes ke30corolla.coupe they are one of the rarest of corolla shapes to come across in Australia - equally as rare as the 4 dr KE11 (import) - I just love the shape of the KE50 too, and it's well equipped with everything that the Aussie rolla's had at that time, plus more - factory tacho, cloth seats, pillarless doors, the list goes on! - I travelled a long way to find mine, and there's only a few other KE50's on Rollaclub, a white one (owned by KE50) - just sold it last week I believe, and there's one other somewhere on here, but yeah if you can find one - It's like finding a Gold Nugget in your backyard - a rare occasion! KJ :)
-
Yeah very true, I run my KE55 on unleaded with no problems whatsoever, although they say it isn't a bad Idea to chuck that fuel saver stuff in once in a while, and once or twice I've chucked premium in her and it seems to give it that extra kick - but at the moment, it costs too much for that!! KJ.

Sounds fantastic - so if I can get hold of an airconditioning unit from a KE70 or preferabally from a KE55 from a wreckers or somewhere, then yeah I'd be keen to tackle the project - I don't mind getting out the toolbox and giving things a go! and I would love to see some pix Sbox - when you get around to them that is... anyone else with any info they can help me with, just PM me! and if anyone comes across an airconditioning unit cheap out of a wreck or something, let me know (I'm located in SA, so I'd preferr not to pay postage) Cheers
-
I might even be able to make it! I have a friends party earlier that night at Red Rock Noodle Bar.. KJ :)

Does your KExx have airconditioning? I know some came out with it as a factory option.. just wondering for those KE's without aircon (like mine), can a airconditioning unit from a car that did have it in, be easily installed in one without? I have been talking to a few people about this - local mechanics etc.. and there's reason to believe that it's difficult to install airconditioning in one without it because all the hoses etc under the dash have to be re-installed and replaced.. so I'm just wondering if anyone has installed airconditioning in their KExx and if so, how easy was it to install? Cheers KJ :)

I have a KE50 as a project car myself, and yeah they are a very rare find & very unique, but also gorgeous looking when lowered with mags (as 7shades said) - and the best thing is most of the car and all the engine & parts are the same as a normal 70's corolla (3K), so she's not going to require imports and expensive parts or mods! So I would say go for it - it will pay off in the long run, and if you don't think it's the projct for you, then pass it onto someone else who does - another Rolla enthusiest no doubt would take up the offer.. but seriously, NO corolla in my opinion deserves to see the scrap metal pile!!!!! KJ :)

When's the next cruise happening? Any in October? KJ :)
-
Yeah that's a though - I just have a KE50 dash sitting here and thought it might fit - what about if I replaced the whole dash surround - if I could get one from somewhere, but like the KE30's and KE55 Dash surrounds, they are different so I'm doubting It'd fit but I might be wrong.. KJ :y:
-
Does anyone know if a KE50 Tacho Dash can be modified to fit into a KE55 Dash? Perhaps someone here has done the conversion... KJ.

Did u get a phone number for the rolla in Palmer and do u have any other details about the car - eg any rust, panel damage etc..? Would it still be for sale? Cheers KJ :-)

I was reading on some other forums where they're organising get togethers and BBQ's in memory of Steve Irwin, so I thought all the Rollaclub members in each state/city should organise a cruise in memory of our greatest Aussie Icon - Steve Irwin! Any intrerest and any suggesstions? KJ :P
