  1. I meant to put that in here, must have had a seniors moment (I'm nearly 40, LOL) thanks for putting in right place, where would we be without friendly moderators!
  2. I've added your link to the "Corolla Parts" thread. Cheers, Si. :) Please.
  3. EFI will be nice when it receives some forced induction :D
  4. We have victory (sort of) advanced the timing, and the car is running great (probably 95%) can live with that.
  5. Glad you saw sense, a 7agte (7afe bottom end, 4age top end and turbo) will go as well as a ca18det anyway + waaaaaaaaay less hassles
  6. I reckon water to air is the go for drag and drifting where the vehicle is subject to fairly extreme punishment for short periods. Air to air is the go for circuit racing where air flow is more consistent and duration of abuse is longer.
  7. Made some progress: killed the engine anchoring the battery. Absolutely no spark, 2 minutes with the multimeter and I find no power getting to the coil. No power getting out of the relay box. Couldn't be stuffed finding out why, so I have hard wired a supply from the battery. Car actually goes another 10% better now. I'd say its got about 60% power now. Mixture screw is wound all the way down now (runs best like that). Also the spitting HT lead off seems to be related to the cylinder not being able adequately ignite the fuel in the cylinder. I played with the mixtrues and adjusted the screw the other way, it spluttered under load and spat the lead off, now that I have leaned it out it doesn't splutter anywhere near as much and hasn't spat a plug off since. Also fixed a fuel leak in the tank, it helps if you make sure the rubber gasket that goes on the top of the tank is sitting flat with the little rubber knob thingy located in its hole rather than being squashed under the rim, LOL.
  8. You (or anyone) know what the gap should be? Cheers, Mark
  9. Dare I say...bling? & proof cam timing is spot on...
  10. 150 psi on all 4, 'new' leads, new plugs, average, new fuel. Because it is running "O.K." I am thinking of pressing on and turbo'ing it, hoping that using a microfueller can compensate for incorrect fuelling. The only thing I can think of checking that I haven't yet is fuel pressure at the rail. Is it possible to get spark plugs that are the wrong resistance or something? It keeps spitting an HT lead off number 3 cylinder! If plugs were too high resistance, I could imagine it might cause this, and maybe the other problems too....The TRX alloys with 195/50R15s look fully sick, no scrubbage except for absolute full lock. Will post pics when I find camera.
  11. Decent Mitsu engines: 1.6L MIVEC - Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg - they had a one make race series of these here a few years ago, meaning you might be able to find something, if you've got lots of $$$ keep an eye on MY105.com, I know complete cars have gone for close to $10K (sell off bits, you might be surprised), also Please Consider (ROFLMAO) non-MIVEC 4G63 (I think) from Proton Satria GTI (and its predecesor) in N/A form; and early Lancer GSR in turbo form. All these engines are fwd/awd, but I think may bolt up to Mitsubishi Sigma 'boxes. If you are serious you could buy a Sigma for next to nothing, do a engine/gearbox swap, then engine transplant once you have all the mounts etc. sorted out
  12. Have fiddled with the airflow 'mixture' screw (actually a simple air by-pass) and car is running a bit better again, still not 100%. Had a wierd problem with it spitting the HT lead off number 3 plug, but that seems to have come right as well. Have a set of 2nd hand 195/50r15s to throw on the TRX rims, hopefully the local servo will let me use their tyre changing machine, LOL.
  13. Yeah, no MAP sensor, still have more tidying up to do, and some wiring to double check, thanks for feedback
  14. Buy a crashed v6 manual camry, gut and cut the arse end of the corolla, drop in the whole drive train, weld/fabricate = grunty mid engined rear wheel drive all toyota that handles, just kidding (sort of)
  15. Likes: higher revs, partial throttle, lower gears. Dislikes: lower revs, full throttle, higher gears. Interestingly, it will tolerate full throttle at high revs in lower gears. Still very soft throttle response. Any ideas?
  16. Its absolutely flat out doing 110 km/h down hill and has very poor throttle response, I might have been trying to keep momentum up. It didn't start running better until I got to Sorell, then it magically came good. I very much doubt my speed would have been more than 10 km/h over the limit. Sorry if I scared/offended anyone. Mark
  17. Hallelujah! The end is in sight. Took the POS back to Jonny and did some tests and fixed a couple of small things. Car got better and better as I drove home. Car is now about 75% right, so good to finally make some progress. Thanks heaps Jonny, UR a legend. Funny story that happened today too...http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=21921&st=1020
  18. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=...020#entry318492 ROFLMAO
  19. Re this thread: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=22733&st=90 took the car back to see Jonny again today. Jonny goes "Can you take me for a spin around the block?" I go "Sure, but you drive, so you can feel what's going on" So we jump in the car and after coaxing it up Molle street (I had just been dialing up 5000 rpm and dropping the clutch :P) so we turn right into Bathurst Street and its starting to splutter and pop a bit. Pull up at the lights and its still popping a bit as we turn right down Barrack street. Jonny gives a bit more then backs off and BANG, big backfire, then 2 seconds later another even bigger BANG and it sets off a building burglar alarm! It was sooo funny, and to make matters worse just after this happened Jonny drove past a bloke he knew. I am there cacking myself and Jonny in his usual understated manner goes "Ummmm, I think I know that guy". Sorry if driving my POS has hurt your rep as a great mechanic Jonny :P
  20. see: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=22733&st=90. I need a complete list of error codes for a standard 2TGEU ECU. I also need to know which ports to bridge (no I'm not talking about rotaries, LOL) and some way of hooking up a test light for the flashes as I don't have the 2TGEU dash. I'll check Toymods again, but don't like my chances. Thanks in anticipation, Mark
  21. Bought new leads, dissy cap and rotor today, made very little difference. Next thing to try is ECU fault codes. Anyone have a list, or know where to find one?
  22. Sooooooo close. Found a dead wire, fixed it. Now idles well and runs without ridiclulous amounts of advance or idle speed. Its still not quite 100% but its now driveable. Might see if I can find someone with a wideband O2 sensor so I can see if the mixtures are in the ball park, I am suspecting its still very rich.
  23. For those interested: Found a wire on the airflow meter block that had backed out of its mount. I reassembled all, fixed this pin and got it to idle at the proper advance and idle speed settings. ;). Shut the bonnet to take it for a spin and it died, won't re-start. Have started cleaning up the loom and doing proper solder joins and putting the loom in conduit, so hopefully the end is in sight. Please tell me I am going to win, I have seen a tiny glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel!
  24. O.K. checked injectors and their plugs yeatserday, all are squirting O.K. Will finish re-assembling the intake side this week, and hopefully it will be all good. It looks like there is a piece of drebis stuck in the return line of the fuel pressure regulator, hopefully when I re-connect it, the fuel pressure wil blow it out. Mark
  25. Very interesting, I thought this model was North/South FWD like the ADM Toyota Tercel, but yours is East/West.
