  1. W series (celica/supra) gearbox will be strong enough. Supra ass end is IRS, so can't use diff unless you spend $$$$$$$$$$ doing an IRS conversion. A Hilux diff would be a good option.
  2. Wanted for "Slab": http://www.boostcruising.com/forums/index....howtopic=430397
  3. All major engine bay work is finished, T18 pedal box is fitted, put some oil in the diff. Was going to put the dodgy DIY EFI T18 tank into the AE71, but have decided to "do it properly" and invest in a lift pump, surge tank and external EFI pump.
  4. I nearly got done speeding after a gearbox swap. I went from a TE72 T50 "small spline" to a (model unknown) "big spline" T50 and it knocked the speedo out by about 15 km/h!
  5. It depends on which model T18 the box came out of. Also the incorrect splining can be fixed by using the front half of the tailshaft that runs with that gearbox. The input shafts are the same, it's the output shafts that vary the number of splines.
  6. Another idea: The 3.2L V6 out of late model Vectra's seems a nice engine, or a 3.2L V6 out of a Rodeo. Both engines would be better than a commonwhore V6.
  7. Update: All intercooler piping is done, I have the correct dump pipe now (thanks Jamie, UR a legend), all was going well until I attempted to swap some heater hoses around...and broke one of the pipes off, arrrrrrgh, bloody cars.
  8. That's sweet as. So the doors are made from scratch? The conversion could be easier using AE71 panel van doors then moving the B pillars to suit?
  9. Remember the "Hot" Holden Calibra? All wheel drive, Turbo, 150 ish kW? Would go O.K. with one of those. Nah, just go an Aurion V6, Mmmmm 200 killer wasps.
  10. Its a big relief to get the windows back in when you live in Tasmania and its days away from winter...
  11. 3000 words... (No, I didn't just bog over rust, it is all new metal underneath)
  12. Hey dude, I'll have the drivers side front indicator too. If you get on here before next weekend. (Someone give this guy a heads up)
  13. Hey Prewer, I call dibs on the AE71 pedal box, PM me UR address and I'll drop in and pick up when I come up for the V8s.

    Red Pos

    Holy shit, that was funny!
  15. Brightside Interlux Marine White $130 for 4L FTW!
  16. Seca, I used to have an AE82 Twinky and they look identical. Theory: AE82 ones are going to be easier to find and cheaper than AE71 items. (No "Poor-mans" Takumi Tax) Oh yeah, that "Magic" DIY dent repair (heat with hair dryer, then hit with "Freeze" {CO2}) is a load of shit. I reckon the only dents it might work on are very large, but very shallow ones, and they can usually just be (carefully) pushed out with hand pressure.
  17. - High roof goodness - Rooted panels off - Less rooted panels on - Fortunately it came with another rad support panel to fix this - Check out the weld quality, LOL Latest: Complete 4ac front-end is out (4a, x member, struts) and hybrid x-member is installed. All good panels have been installed. This was quite a process. Murphys law with front quarter: Fitted panel - no door opening clearance, Went to re-hang door to find hinges were rooted, Went to fit TE71 ones to find out they don't fit, Spent quite a while fabricating sleeve to tighten up hinge, welded it up to find I'd put bracket on upside down, etc. etc. Looks all good now, minimal drop on door when opening too. Can anyone confirm: Ae71s and AE82s share the same external mirrors? Cheers, Mark
  18. Thanks Jonny, Rang my local mechanic today and he was like, yeah engine swaps ar O.K. as long as they are done "right" He even said you could put an engine from another make of car in and pass rego. as long as you did it "right". Presumably he also meant as long as you don't go for something extreme like a 1UZ in a ke20. LOL I am going to do the swap, turbo, everything and if he gives me any grief..."but you said over the phone yada, yada" Won't be my usual standard of dodginess either, and this car is a much, much better base to start with than the other rusty POS's I have bought in the past. Cheers, Mark
  19. Rang my local rego guy today, and he was very accommodating, reckons i my as well just put the 2tg and all the good bits in it then do the rego and mod plate at the same times. Mark
  20. Hey all, after an absolute shit-fight with towing, I am now the proud owner of a really good (compared to my usual buckets) Multi-coloured AE71 wagon. I sat down and actually wote a plan for this car. She will need to be inspected to get registration, so I am going to leave the 4ac in it, degrease, clean etc, do body work and paint (white "rollered" boat paint), fit the TRX rims with leagl 2nd hand tyres, change the diff centre (ROFLMAO at the thought of driving in to inspection bay with the weldy in place!) and fit the missing driveling components from "Jesus". At the same time; I am going to continue doing bits and pieces on "Jesus" with the turbo conversion, so as soon as "Slab" passes rego, she can have a heart transplant, lowering, weldy etc. etc. :) Pics later.
  21. Might make sure suspension is roughly standard height before trying for rego. Prepped the AE71 wags (aren't wagon designations normally different to other body styles? {e.g. AE92 AE95}) for towing, now just have to find a tow car and trailer. More interesting TE72 versus AE71 facts: TE72 front struts will take gay offset 15"s with tyres (just), AE71's won't, the spring perch seems to sit much closer to the wheel centres. Interesting.
  22. Well a 2TGTE anyways, just had to join the Leaf Sprung Axle Trampers Club. How do you Tassie boys reckon I'll go with rego.? (Its one of Mookie's old busses)
