  1. sweet lord. i love your work.
  2. Greetings all! My good friend Brent and I have been attacking the wiring for my JDM 16V bigport 4A-GE conversion into my AE71, but have encountered a problem. As a side note, i'm running a Microtech e420c ECU and silvertop quads, if it makes a difference. I basically need to know which wire connects up to what. As shown in the picture here, the wires on the left are from the hall sensor from the ECU and the wires on the right are off the distributor. Would anybody happen to know which letters / wires connect up to what? I.e. A -> G, B -> F etc. If i've cocked this question up, apologies. Wiring is a mythical world to me. Thanks so much to anybody that can help! You'll be putting me so much closer to being back on the road.
  3. I had the same approach to fixing things, then once i started, i quickly got over wanting to fix things for the sake of it haha.
  4. I was watching 'Silence of the Lambs' last night, and on two occasions i saw an AE86... The first was when Clarice was walking to her shitter right at the start after getting the assignment to talk to Hannibal, a lovely red Trueno was parked next to her, and the second time was when the Buffalo Bill bloke was scoping the chick to abduct, right before she offers to help him load the couch into the back of his van, she parks next to a red notchback. I was watching it with my girly and was like "OMGZ LOOK IT'S THAT COROLLA I'M ALWAYS REFERING TO!" and she was all like "OMG NO I HATE YOUR COROLLAS!" It was great.
  5. Well... sorry. I was just asking? I was merely curious as to if he had some kind of thread for this "idea" you speak of, and as i have no idea who beerhead is, i thought i'd ask you and / or search for him. Considering you brought up this "idea", i didn't think it was off limits to ask. Apparently i was wrong. And as for them being hard to find, no, they are not. Possibly not the best choice of words. I'm sure i could go and find one now if i chose to, but as i mentioned earlier, i am pressed for time? And i can get an ADM tank tonight? My simple question was, what is needed to make an AE86 tank fit. And i am aware of fuel surge being un-beneficial, i never stated that i believed it was a positive aspect of engine management to starve it of fuel. Considering it's a daily driver and to prevent surge you just make sure you have an adequate level of fuel in the tank and don't punt it around corners when you've got 1/8th of a tank left, i believe i can live with it. And / or add a surge tank now, if i can find one i can grab in the next couple of days. If your main concern is i'm going to get surge from using an AE86 ADM tank, then the fix would be to include a surge tank. Simple. I don't understand why you jump down my throat and criticise me for "not doing it properly" when the fix is simple, and i've clearly stated that all i want to know is how to shoehorn in an AE86 ADM tank into an AE71. Jesus. If anyone else has some input as to what is required, feel free to hit me. All input appreciated.
  6. Yeah i did catch your reply to my last thread, much obliged sir... Unfortunately so, but the only reason i need to go for the ae86 tank is because i've got the wrong pump for the wrong tank, so something needs to change, i.e. i need to get a different pump setup (something smaller, or go the VL route...) or change the tank that has a large enough hole to accept the pump down through the hole. So i understand that it's not the best solution because i'm still stuck with a tank that has no baffling, but to be honest, my build is on a tight timeframe and i'm just looking at getting it going first, then overcoming any obstacles as they arise, e.g. surge. I will presumably add in an under-car surge tank later to overcome this problem. The only problem with acquiring those tanks is i'm assuming the corona one might be difficult to source, and JDM one's are expensive as all hell. And basically, i can get access to an ADM one tonight, which follows on from the fact i've got minimal time to work with haha. What is Beerhead's idea? I tried to do a member search, but had no luck...
  7. Yo homiez! I hate fuel systems. I now smell of petrol. The only plus side of this whole operation is that the AE71 has a drain plug in the fuel tank, which means no siphoning for me! I'll cut to the chase: Trying to set up my AE71's 4AGE fuel system. I opted for the in-tank pump setup, not the external VL lifter + sender type setup, because i couldn't be bothered to deal with the noise, and to have to mount more things in the boot / under the car etc. I mistakenly believed that the EFI pump from an AE82 would fit into my AE71's hole... WRONG! If you're reading this and thinking this is the go, IT ISN'T! Look at images from the two. The AE82's pump mounting plate has six screws. The AE71's has five. Fail @ life by me, the AE71's hole never had to be big enough to deal with a pump! Anyways, i've been offered an AE86 ADM tank on the cheap, so i'm thinking that it might be worth it to create my own "JDM" type setup, i.e. the ADM tank with an in-tank pump, but i was wondering how much modification to the tank itself would be required? I've read that the filler neck needs to be altered... How? And is there anything else needed to shoehorn that homie in? I've tried searching on the e-webz... no luck. THANKS HEAPS! E-beers all 'round. - Alex.
  8. Hey all... Doing the old 4AGE into an AE71 conversion and i'm setting up the fuel pump & i need to know what kind of intake pump i need. I'm not looking to use a lift & pressure pump setup (i.e. a VL commodore), i'm after an in-tank setup to keep things clean. I've searched here and elsewhere and on the advice of what i found i went out and grabbed an AE82 pump from a smallport, but it is way too big to fit into the hole, let alone needing extra room for allowing a longer bracket to reach the bottom of the tank as the AE82 one is far too short... So i really need to know exactly what kind of pump others have used to fit down into the hole? Cheers guys...
  9. that bloke's bimmer is f@$king amazing. I give that +10 props, because that could have gone so, so wrong but didn't. So true. I used to do graffiti and have always been artistic, and was recently considering getting a tattoo in semi-script, semi-graffiti. But there is no way i could ever live with my own work on my skin. I'd constantly pick imperfections with it, so i outsourced it to a talented friend of mine. Looks the tits, and now i don't have to worry about me hating my own shit in 2 months time.
  10. Just going to throw my two cents into this one, and tell you that your 2door is gorgeous. That, and maybe you should consider the masking-tape column as a permanant solution! Metal = heavy. paper tape = not! :)
  11. Just adding the wanta's make that thing look sex. That rust... ungh i feel your pain. Rust is the devils work. P.s. is that just rattle canned black over the stock red paint haha?
  12. Well played sir! You have a tight van indeed. Very nice! p.s. you shouldn't have sold the starlet! We missed out hard on those ones!
  13. The diff should be apples mate, in my limited knowledge of diffs. Keep in mind though, that the auto and manual one's have different ratios, but that won't prevent anything working. If anything, i've heard that people prefer the better accelaration and response from the auto diff compared to the manual one, but it's a small point and wouldn't really bother me either way if i was you. And the brake drums should bolt up good, as far as i can see... Although, i've only ever gone from drum to disc, not swapping drum across to drum. Hey dude, not too sure about ratios for the KE, but for the AE the diff ratios are thus: Auto: 4.1 Manual: 3.9 Hope that helps... - Alex.
  14. Rather than creating a new topic i thought i'd re-ask the question... So, an AE86 system will indeed fit an AE71? Or will new mounting points need to be welded on? I'm trying to source an exhaust for my 4A-GE AE71 build, and i thought it might be a cheaper option to buy one second-hand. But most of them are for Hachi's. And would they fit, regardless of over-diff / under-diff? Cheers for the help!
