Told you most mechanics is straight forward  see who's become the more experienced one now hehe. Good to see the progress man, planning on doing anything while the engine is out?

Grrr well I went to the trouble of changing my carby (to another standard carby) and now its even WORSE. No idea how this could be. Its not the secondary sticking, though it does seem to be vacuum related as it only does it at times of increased vacuum. I can rev it happily and the revs will drop normally when the clutch is in. But if I clutch in after driving then the revs will jump and then stay almost constantly up there until slowly going back down to normal idle. Anyone have any ideas?? :no2:

I think you just heat it up again and shove it back on from what I've read.

Worked on my arse dyno :bash:

The throttle on my 4ac (ae82) is sticking. Its so bad it doesn't start sometimes until I pump the throttle enough that it frees up. There's quite a delay between me releasing the throttle and the revs dropping. Also when I clutch in to change gears it revs up about 300rpm before dropping again. Ive cleaned out and around the carby. Ive also lubed all the throttle components around the carb. The throttle return spring works fine and doesn't feel like there's any delay. I've got a weber and adapter plate I could put on but I'm not sure how hard it would be to hook up the accelerator cable, fuel line or what I'd do with the vac lines. Ive never used it in the months I've had it so I'm not even sure it works. Anyway, any advice is appreciated

The same argument was in the other cruise thread. I wouldn't bother wasting my breath, as long as you know better then thats all that matters

Exhaust, Weber or sports filter for the stock carb, remove the exhaust butterfly or stop it from shutting, oil and plugs change, carby cleaner through the engine, adjust the ignition timing. :fuzz:

Should be able to find her a 4afe seca easy for $3500. Maybe not from dealers but definitely private sale. My mates girlfriend got hers for $1500. They seem to be all I ever see when I look through the classifieds. If you're lucky you might even be able to find one with a 4age

Its great to see you've got so much support from everyone here. But although the car was free, are you sure its worth the effort for you? It will probably end up costing you more than if you bought something in better nick, especially if you can't do all the work yourself. I bought my rolla for $600 and I'm basically rebuilding it piece by piece. I don't regret it because I've learned a lot from it, its been good fun and I love it to death. But realistically after all that work its still a bit of a heap that owes me probably 4 grand +. And for that I could have a 4agze now  Sorry to rain on your parade, I really hope this project works out for you. Its just its not always great to have things constantly going wrong that you need to fix every pay check. Good luck

As you can tell you'll get a lot of conflicting information. I'd recommend something like: Breathing Squats 1 set x 20reps ,1 set x 15 reps Bench press 2 sets x 8 reps Stiff leg deadlift 2 sets x 8 reps Chins 2 sets of as many reps as you can or lat pulldowns until you can chin Military press 2 sets x 8 reps BB curl 2 sets x 8 reps Dips 2 sets x 8 reps I'd do that routine 3 times a week. Also try and eat every 2.5 - 3 hours, try and include good fats and proteins with meals. Regardless of the paths you take, you probably know whats good and whats bad for you. If you eat, sleep and lift consistently then you should see results.

Coilovers aren't always the most practical solution. As long as you get the right offset and don't go too wide then you should be fine with 15s. I think we need +38 and about 6.5" wide??

I'd buy a powercage, an olympic weight set and a years supply of tuna :( IMO protein shakes are about as useful as octane booster in a standard car.

Don't bother painting the bumpers, just grab some colour coded ones from a wrecker. Cheaper and less effort. Looks clean, good buy :P Also you should buy my struts and rear swaybar. They will transform the car

I agree with the cold air intake otherwise not much use playing with a 4afe other than decent oil, a nice flowing filter (not open in the engine bay) and other routine things to make it run nice. Id like to see someone put a c52 in these just to see what the higher final drive ratio would be like, but thats just for my own curiousity ;) Super low kings are usually for looks and not handling. They also might cause clearance issues with 17s. A lot of people have clearance issues with 17s anyway and end up selling them for more practical 15s or 16s. Supercharged silvertop eh. Will believe it when I see it ;) Good luck :(

Wow maybe I should consider moving to east melbourne... :D Last girl I was with said I would be an idiot to buy a $600 rolla after she saw it and we test drove it. So she and my dad talked me out of it. BUT we broke up and 2 weeks later I had the keys in my hand. Good trade I'd say, the car was less temperamental

You'll be fine. Just don't get a ricer cannon :D

Now you 2 play nice hehe :S Glad you intervened though mystik, I mean each to their own, people can have their preferences and not have to bag out others for theirs. I mean we're all corolla fans in the end :P

Wow the hills get a bashing on here. I don't know about anyone else but I bought my rolla for the way it handles. If I wanted a straight line stroll along the beach then I'd get out the auto valiant. I was disappointed that I couldn't come and even tried to arrange to ride shotgun in someone elses car, but then they piked out too :S On the bright side I should have rear disks on my car soon :P

Hah well I may as well continue the trend. Something started making bad grinding noises last night. Fingers crossed its just a wheel bearing but means I wont make it tonight either :D So does that leave anyone that's going? :P
-
At least you learned eventually hehe :P
-
I'd go 2" personally but I haven't read anything about 4ac mods for a while (not that there's that much to read)

Glad to hear the dash went well for you :( I'm gonna try the grill in mine. Apparently with a little filing it gets in there. You're welcome to buy my old king springs off me but I think it would make your grinding problem even worse. There's also an exhaust butterfly in your manifold that obstructs a lot of flow that you might want to remove or cease the function of. Dunno if it will mess with much gear or have legality issues but if you also got a lynx filter for your stock carby and got rid of the bulky air filter housing/snorkle etc then it should help it breathe better (plus the induction noise is cool heh). Umm you can also use an ae102 gear shifter that is shorter than your ae82 one. You can put skateboard bearings in to replace your gear shifter bushings at the box and of your linkages. Ae102 front disks are a lot better than cs brakes and are pretty well interchangeable, you just need to either replace the bearing carrier with an ae102 one or you can use an ae93 disk on the original hub. Ae82 twincam rear disks should bolt up. The stock twincam strutbar is a good easy mod too, although by the looks you'll have to reverse your struts, but this is fine as it gives you more caster anyway :) Rear swaybars are great on these cars. Umm how long is a piece of string? ;)

I'll probably come for the meet and greet and thats it. My rolla isn't very healthy at the moment and I wont have any time to fix things before hand due to uni commitments :(
-
Doesn't it annoy you to not have a tacho? CSX dash clusters are a straight swap, no wiring for the tacho necessary, looms are identical between the cs and the csx. Just unplug the old one and plug in the other. Hardest part is the speedo cable can be a bit fiddly. I rolled my guards myself. Heated up the paint a little bit with an old blow heater, then used a little vice with 2 blocks of wood and a rag. Just tightened it up and went around gradually. Didn't turn out amazing but it did the job. It also flaired the flats out in line with the angle of the lip which I thought was cool. Interior trim looks awesome :lolcry:

Depending on how uni goes I might be in. Would be good to meet some more local rolla people. My car looks better at night anyway :)
