It sounds like Andrew's been truely screwed over. Looks like Consumer Affairs DEFINITELY need to become involved.

Not surprised. Sorry Andrew, but it did seem extremely dodgy when it didn't turn up for so long. I would bet the seller didn't even have an engine and just went and sourced a 4A-GZE when he realised you would be coming after him for the money. How much did you pay? Was it from a company or a private seller? If it's from a company, you can demand a refund. If it's from a private seller, look on the up side - the AW11 type has lower compression, better cams, and bigger ports. Boost is the answer, my friend. :lolcry:

I'd rather not just add randoms simply because they might turn up or become members. I'd rather be certain I can rely on them.

I was going to post an update yesterday, but it didn't happen. :lolcry: At this stage we only have around 10-12 persons who have expressed an interest in forming a Toyota club up here. Therefore it would not seem to be useful exercise to attempt to form a club at this stage if there are going to be so few members. I would suggest that twenty members would be a better starting point. I will be attempting to get something published in the newspaper to attract interest, and if that is successful, then we can arrange a meeting. For now the meeting that was planned for the 28th is cancelled, which is probably better anyway, as the location I had planned is unavailable at this time. With any luck we will be able to get enough interest to have a meeting by the end of the year. I will be sure to give a few weeks notice before the meeting so everyone has a good chance to attend.

Nice pictures Daven. The event went okay - nothing overly special. We haven't got any new members, but we had a few people check out the cars. Many came and had a look at the AE82 and AW11. There were a few negative comments by people who didn't think much of Corollas/Toyota/four cylinders. Just stuff I overheard as they walked by. We were really the only people representing four cylinder cars, so I'm not overly surprised. I think if we do it again next year, which I think we should do, it may be better, especially if I can have one or two of the TA22's ready. People might be a bit more interested if they see some proper classics before they're introduced to the modern classics or hot fours. :lolcry: Hope all of you had a good time.

PM me the details on the guy you bought it from. Time to get some hard-hittin' mo-fo's to go around and get some money back.
-
Too easy Daven. If you're there Saturday morning it would be good. Could someone please bring a camera (preferably digital) to get some pics of our display? I'm not sure if mine will work. :lolcry:

??? That doesn't sound good... Why no Corolla? You'd be pretty surprised how long a Borg-Warner will take 150rwkw for. I still think a Commodore/Hilux diff is excessive.
-
Corrected. :lolcry:

As it turns out, I will probably be there on both Saturday and Sunday. I don't see the point in attending this damn CAMS training - I have no interest in continuing as an official for much longer. But I would still like you guys to come down for the morning or afternoon so I get a chance to go for a wander - plus I'll need some company. :lolcry: Stephen & Shane - are you going to be attending on the Saturday?
-
I didn't do it. Brenton Taylor had this diff on his KE55 IP car before he upgraded to a 7.5/8.0" Hilux diff with Torsen LSD. It is only bent enough to give about 0.75 degrees of negative camber (presumably either side). It's not much, but not much should be needed on a live axle rear end anyway. And the centre was professionally welded, TIG from memory. It'd be heaps tough enough. Andrew - the problems with going to a Hilux diff are many. They are big and heavy bastards. To get them cut down isn't cheap. You need to get them set up for a four stud pattern, or run completely different wheels front and rear, or change the front hubs. They're not cheap to buy/replace. For the amount you'd spend on a Hilux diff to suit your AE71, you could easily buy about ten Borg-Warner diffs - probably twenty. They're easy to find, and very cheap to buy. Hell, I'll sell you all of mine (five or six - however many there are) for $300 just so you can see what I mean. Then again, what would I know?

I figure we'll just meet at the Showgrounds. I do need to work out how I'm going to drop off the GT-Four and get back home to my Corolla so I can drop you guys off at your homes. Officials will have a placement guide for the cars, or at least where the clubs are going. No, we don't have a banner, but tomorrow after work I'll be making up flyers and info about cars and stuff. :P
-
I'm not throwing them away though. I paid $150 for the one that's installed in the KE55 at the moment, but am not after anywhere near that for any of them. In fact, $50 will get you any of the diffs, except that one. It costs $100 as it not only has a 4.3:1 ratio and is VERY strongly welded, but it has been put a in press and bent to give negative camber on the rear wheels. :P A KE55 diff can be used on a KE70/AE71. The only thing is that the leaf spring mounts will need to be removed and replaced by coil spring ones off a KE70/AE71, and the diff is narrower than the KE70/AE71 version. The advantage of this is you could run even more negative offset without fouling your guards. :P

Mainly just want to promote the Toyota club, but we can mention how easy it is to join RollaClub. Cars need to be dropped off by 6pm Friday night. I want to aim to get it done by 5pm. I've taken Friday off work, and will be available to give anyone a ride home that may need one.

The show is open from 9am to 4pm on both the Saturday and Sunday. That's seven hours each day, but I would suggest that 8-8:30am would be a good time to turn up so the cars can be given a quick wipe with a chamois to keep them shiny and get rid of any dust. That's eight hours in total, so I'd suggest four hour shifts, one from 8am to 12pm, one from 12pm to 4pm. Daven, will you be right to do 8-12? Andrew, can you do 12-4?

Okey dokey. I've got a problem. :P Apparently there will be a CAMS officials training dude coming up from down south to hold a session on Sunday 15 June. I only found out on Saturday. As there is supposedly a lack of officials for the V8's, I will now be trying to be an official for the V8 weekend so we don't risk losing this event. To be an official I need this further training session, so I won't be able to attend the Extravaganza on the Sunday. :P Which also means I need you guys to look after the RollaClub display on the Sunday. We can't really leave it alone, as we'll have Bridge Toyota's vehicles on display and they need to be looked after and people need to be directed towards Bridge Toyota's display so they buy new Toyotas. I also want to have a register of interest for a Toyota club with contact details so I can get in touch with people and let them know when & where a meeting will be held. Could I have some volunteers? If one of you can't sit there all day and do it, could you let me know when you'll be available so the job can be split up? This has to happen.
-
Yeah, Adam can't find them. :P I'll keep looking around as I'd like to find them before the Extravaganza. I'm also hoping to garner more interest for a Toyota club at the Extravaganza - part of the reason I'm hoping we get a TRD. :P
-
You welded a KE70/AE71 diff??? I've got heaps of Borg-Warner diffs you could have used, including a KE70 wagon diff and multiple KE55 diffs. The centres can all be swapped!!! I need to get rid of them as well. Some diffs are welded, some are not. I also have two automatic 4.3:1 ratios diffs, as well as a few of the manual 4.111:1 diffs.
-
I'll PM you, Ella. :P

Started pulling Lola apart yesterday. I have removed the front struts with its Kings low springs. Taken off the adjustable lower control arms. Disassembled the Whiteline front swaybar and bushes. I have also unbolted the two rear sections of the exhaust (it's a Lukey muffler as it turns out). After I'd taken the front stuff off with the front of the car on stands, I jacked up the driver's side rear and put it on a stand, and while jacking the passenger side up, the jack shifted and the car dropped off all three stands (and the jack). As the front of the car was fairly high in the air (the stands were on about the second highest setting), the front came down pretty hard. Everything seems okay, but there is a ripple along the driver's side sill - not sure if this was caused by being dropped or if it was there before. While waiting for someone to turn up with a scissor jack so I could get the KE55 back in the air, I laid down under the TA22 IP car for a good think and to try and plan how I would do things. I've decided that I'll need to fit all engine & suspension components before getting the car painted to ensure the paintwork isn't damaged by any cutting or welding we might need to do. Then all of this will have to be removed again for painting. It's a lot of work, but I want to do the car properly. However, I'm thinking it would be nice to get the car on track for one round this year (not in IP, just in lapsprints). So I figure I might put the components in and get the car actually running so it can be tested. There is a round on 7 September, so I'll aim for that one. Knowing me, I might actually have a chance at getting the car out two rounds after that one. :P Also been in touch with some people in the know about the new Eaton superchargers. The R1320 is too big for an IP car as the 36mm restrictor that is required has an inlet surface area only 14% of that of the supercharger itself. :P I'm seriously thinking a 4A-GTE would be a far simpler solution, and I can get a GT28RS very quickly and fairly cheaply.

I'm not coming now, just on principals. Will any of you come and join me at the display to help out? You don't need to sit there all day, but some company for a couple of hours here and there would be nice.
-
Get f@$ked. I don't recall you inviting any of us to the celebration. So why would we want to look after your car? I'll be there by the cars all weekend. I might go for a wander to check out the other displays and maybe grab some food, but that would be it.
-
Hopefully my camera works. It hasn't yet, so it probably won't this time. I should have just spent $300 instead of $600 and got a permanent in car camera setup. And yes, there will be only two Corollas in our 'RollaClub' display. Typical RollaClub 'effort'. I'll be speaking to anyone who is interested at the Extravaganza about the meeting to be held on the 28th to see if I can get people to attend and join a Toyota club.
-
Andrew, yes it does have to be a meeting. The whole idea is to form a Toyota club for the NT, not just a formal version of RollaClub. Although, as stated, if I don't get more interest it's not going to happen anyway.
