Has Joe actually purchased a KE70 yet? Can't count it if it's not going to be purchased and ready in time.

Nice one! Hmm, I probably won't put all my cars on display now we're getting some decent numbers up. Might show the TA22 race car with Lola's engine installed. Or, for the hell of it I might drop the silvertop in - it looks prettier. :D Alley's TA22 (Tamika) looks good on the outside, so I might show her too. And the ST205 is definitely a goer. Obviously I'll show the ZZE122R to get the collection happening.

f@$k-off-ski. Weber = the shiz! Dizzy = distributor 1,000 fat chicks @ $50 a piece = fat chicks need love too

As the 4K is an ex-speedway motor, I'd only be using the Aisan carbs and the 5K bottom end. So you basically need all of Gregor's motor anyway, plus the good bits from the speedway motor. It could actually make some pretty damn good horsepower. Maybe enough to take on a stock 4A-GE, which isn't bad for a K-series. :abuse:

I didn't drop the car off, but wasn't fussed about what it got.

I haven't even been notified who closed the previous NT General Discussion thread yet, or given a reason as to why it was done. Anyway, you, Stephen and I are all off topic at the moment. Cease and desist please.
-
Ah, that's really off-topic. Please don't start going off topic again - I don't want a heap of threads being closed. :abuse: As it is none of our posts count towards a post count anymore (not that that matters) - I would like the NT section to remain in place, preferably without interference from random persons from interstate.

Bought the silvertop from BJ. Yep, basically the more money, the faster you go. You can set as many rules and restrictions as you want, but whoever has the most cash is always going to have a better chance of winning races. You could make it so everyone has to use the exact same type of car with the exact same setup, down to even the same tyre pressures - whoever has the most money will just push the car as hard as they can, crash in a few races, win the rest - they'll be able to afford replacements more easily. Interesting to note that the Hidden Valley lap record for a (legal) IP car was a 1:19 done by Dave Cheetham in the RX3. It had been beaten by two other cars, but one was running illegal fuel and the other didn't count for some reason. At the V8's last year, the AE82 hatchback with the 3S-GE BEAMS motor was doing 1:18's in qualifying. There is SOOOOO much potential for a car to set a new IP lap record! If a driver can come from interstate, with a car that's not necessarily setup up right for the track, and with the driver not a regular at that track, then a local should be able to develop themselves and a car to beat that time. I'm amazed one of the rotaries (none of which are turbo, mind you) or a V8 IP car hasn't been able to better 1:18.

Yeah, I know it's got a 4K bottom end - it would be better with a 5K bottom end. :abuse:

That's an awesome deal for you Joe! DO EET!!!

No restrictions on the N/A engine would be modified, other than not going over 2% more capacity than the nominated class. So for a 1600 I can actually have as much as 1632cc. If I stroke it I can go to as much as 2040cc, but I haven't heard of more than 2029cc for an A-series engine. If I use the bigport, I'll end up using bits off the silvertop as well, such as throttles, possibly flywheel, conrods, etc. Or I might just use the 20v and keep the bigport head for the 4A-GZE. :abuse:

I got $7 for the last KE55 shell we took to Sims. I've had another one taken there during last week - not sure how much we got (I won't see the money), but it had a K40 gearbox in the back as well as some other crap. I've got another KE55 that will be going there soon and will have a 4K sitting in it, but no doors. :owned: Might make as much as $10! :abuse:

'Scuse me folks - I haven't felt like posting for the last week or so. Been throwing a hissy fit. Here's my replies I've been holding back on posting: Buy it - looks very neat, provided it's the right price. Yes, I have access to a car trailer, and a ute to tow it. You pay for fuel and a couple of cartons of Carlton Light for the owner and we can (probably) borrow it. :abuse: I've just got to get one of the sides of the tray repaired from some 13T damage first. :( I always prefer the option of upgraded brakes if modifying motors. KE70 brakes will do okay, but could use improvement. In fact, I've got some good brake pads to suit them if you want - Bendix Ultimates from a VN Commodore. They would be an excellent starting point (with those pads), and you could decide if you want to upgrade from there. You could use Corona/Celica brakes for a bit of a bolt-on upgrade. There's also the option of Hilux/LandCruiser four-piston calipers, which bolt on to Corona struts if you're doing the Corona coil-over upgrade. Use a Peugeot disc (I know where some are located) and you'd be all set! You'll never make enough power with a 5K to over-power them. :D Wow!!! Something sensible from Stephen!!! Seriously though, Stephen is correct - I'd rather have bigger brakes than necessary and have good stopping power, rather than find out too late that I don't have good enough brakes for my car. There's no such thing as a KE70/AE71 rear strut. This model has a spring carrier on the diff, and the shock absorber mounts inboard of the spring carrier, so the shock doesn't actually go through the spring at all. However, it is true that Commodore wagon shocks have been used on KE70's, though usually you hear that VN shocks are used. Suzuki Sierra shocks are another popular option, as they're apparently stiffer, and rumour has it that they've got a shorter stroke, which is odd considering they're from a 4WD. Yep, that sounds about right. Mmm, this car would be groovy with the extra capacity of the 5K bottom end. Didn't know it was for sale though? Those wheels don't look too bad - don't go bigger than 16" (MAXIMUM) unless you're a poof. 15's look plenty on a lowered RWD Corolla.

Small update: I'm now most likely going to use Lola's engine & ECU in the TA22 race car for the 2009 racing season. It will NOT be race legal, so I won't win any prizes, but it will mean I can get a feel for IP racing while building the hard-core N/A 4A-GE. Still haven't decided if I'll use the bigport or the silvertop - leaning towards the bigport and using the Microtech from the 4A-GZE rather than re-wiring up the stock AE82 ECU. Also looking at a replacement supercharger for the SC12, just because I can. :abuse: Twinscrew, baby!!!

Yes, Danno's car is the yellow thing with the 77 on the side.
-
:D Oh you're funny Shane. :hmm: A bit is more than a slight understatement. Unless you count a bit as a REALLY big bit.
-
Yep, Corona lower control arms for negative camber. I've got a funny feeling KE30/55 ones are longer than KE70/AE71 ones, Corona ones are longer again, then there's the two types of Sigma arms for even more camber - too much in most cases. And someone really should catalogue my rims - there's SOOO many now!
-
Bwahahaha!!! That's gold!

I think by semi-forged they mean that the pistons are forged, then ceramic topped & coated. Therefore the whole piston is not forged, just part (most) of it. Apparently Toyota put forged/semi-forged pistons in all 4A-GZE's, plus late versions of the 3S-GTE and 2JZ-GTE. Can't verify it myself, but that's what I've read.

I didn't see it as selling stuff - it all just seemed to be everyone trying to help Joe find stuff to build a car.
-
Fair enough. It's just when I saw the unpainted black surface of the kit against the cream paintwork, I started thinking how good black and cream can look together.
-
Get a bigger wheel & tyre combination to fill the guards and then get your speedo recalibrated. I think you'll find Duy's wheels and tyres have a much bigger overall diameter than yours.
-
Good point Gregor - a rear skirt thingy is needed. :D

Andrew's telling big fibs. :D Fib #1: I've got some Datsun 240Z rims, not Supra ones. I'd LOVE a set of Supra ones, but I wouldn't be selling them. :hmm: Mmm, 14x7.0 goodness. :y: Fib #2: The Corona struts use a larger diameter shock than the Corolla ones. As it's easier to find adjustable shocks to suit this larger diameter strut, they are the ones that get used for coilover conversions. HOWEVER, I wouldn't say that they're cheaper than other coilovers. You can buy D2 AE86 coilvers fairly cheaply, but there is some doubt about the quality. AJPS coilover conversions are meant to be EXCELLENT, so spend the little bit extra (compared to D2's) and get some quality stuff. I've got a K40 gearbox I'm throwing away this Saturday (if it hasn't already gone). If it's still there and you want it, you can have it for nothing. It's been out in the weather though, so it's probably rooted.

Assuming that the lip fits smoothly with the other front bar, then it'll look REALLY good. Not sure about the side skirts though, as the curvyness of them doesn't match up too well with the super boxiness of the AE82. But that can only be noticed up close anyway, so it looks pretty cool over all. Actually, it's got me thinking - have you considered painting the bottom half of the car black and leaving the top the current cream colour? Might be worth a thought. :D
