Both front door panels are now done and just need to be fixed to the doors. Have started on the rear door panels, hopefully they'll be ready to cut out tomorrow(Sunday). Then we'll mould the rear panel, have something special planned for that!!
-
Have you tried getting a long screwdriver and putting against your ear and the other end onto the engine until you find the loudest point of the noise? This is one of the best ways of deciding what it could be. To me it sounds like a water pump/ alternator bearing.
-
We have them already, left over from the old car. Just got back from Tony's with Teddy, we were checking out how the CF came out. Doesn't look bad at all, better than i expected.
-
Sorry mate, no plans to do end caps at this stage.
-
Started the carbon fiber door panels today. We'll see tomorrow if we got everything right. Also have pulled the new chrome bumpers out and have started looking at making the moulds for them as well. They'll be fiberglass cause i can see them getting f@$ked very quickly and often. :lolcry: Carbon fiber is pretty!!

GT 50 ran in the south island recently. Some very nice footage of a S1 sport.

Teddy and I done a 7k and W into his Ke70. Had to mod the sump, but i think it was only a small mod to the area behind the main bowl. The engine mounting bracket also had to be cut,i think it was the left one for the engine to sit nicely on the x member. Had to make up a gearbox x member for the W box and take a little out where the gear stick come through, but there wasn't any tunnel mod's done. Oh and you'll need a AE71 pedal box for the hydro clutch that the W series has. It's a very had reving 7k, has dellorto's, cam, head work and extractor's, rev's happily to 8000. But the torque is huge. We also replaced the rear end at the time with a T series too. Hope this helps, Teddy maybe able to shed some more light it.

It puts the steering column off on an angle.

Hell yeah!! I heard a rumour in the weekend about someone building a sprinter with a beams engine in it for the series.
-
This is why i think it's such a great idea. Lots more people wanting to see these things run. Knowing Bates, it'll be something special.

Trev, those are the alloy bolts, and yeah they are the shit. Rob, yip your right, got heaps done cause you were slack and didn't come over. I might come and see your CF light pod, sounds like it's smick!! Jimi, it's still a couple of months away from been driven i reckon, have all the carbon fiber and kevlar to do, but i'll video it when she's been driven. Taz, LOL

Na, Even, had a Ke70 with the same problem!!

Got a few more jobs done today. Tony finished re-torquing the head. Myself, i spent the day doing some little jobs around the car. Like fitting the gear stick (after cleaning and repainting it), cleaning up the inner guard protection and replacing the door hinge bolts with alloy ones. The diff breather has been cleaned and fitted and the fuel tank piping and wiring has finally been finished, everything works great.(thanks Des)

Hey Des, it's an Auto right? it'll be the trans oil heating up the coolant/radiator. assuming you have the trans oil cooler in the rad. Fit an external cooler for the trans and see if that fixes the problem. It's a known issue for Corolla's with Autos.

Yeah, hoping to be there after lunch sometime, come on over and have a look.
-
Yeah, i still have my A/C vac pump, that's what i was going to use. We're hoping to get our stuff next weekend, i can get a price on the4 kevlar for you then. Good luck with the light pod, I know Marius had some fun with his, but the mould looks great now. Our door panels won't be flat, they need recesses for the door handles, so glass is out. Thanks all the same Rob.

Jimi, Not sure of the cost as yet, think around the $500-600 mark for everything. There are a couple of suppliers close by who are helpful and reasonably cheap. Trev, I want too, but she's still not ready, it'll happen, one day!!
-
Another little milestone happened in the weekend, we managed to bleed the brakes and have no leaks (yet!!) Re-done the breather pipes, and Tony finished the wiring for the fuel tank. we are now in the process of working out what we need in the way of Carbon Fiber and kevlar, for the door panels and sump guard. planning to start to make the moulds for the glass bumpers, boot and bonnet within the next couple of weeks as well.

Straight Cut Dog Gears For 4Age Box
TRD ke70 replied to touge rolla's topic in AExx Corolla Discussion
Was covered here as well. Gears -
Cam, the extractors are 4-1,with 1 1/2" primaries, they are good for hi rpm, but the we built the engine more for torque. But the torque we were looking for was from 4000. The old engine was limited to 7500 rpm because the head just couldn't flow enough air for any more. The in take manifolds will take 45's and you are right about the step with 40's on it. Who ever does buy it will be told or shown how to get the best out of the extractors and manifolds, but at the end of the day it'll be up to them what they do. We would have sold the whole engine complete, but the head is shagged and it's worth more in parts.
-
I think Tony wanted to sell the kit complete, sump, oil pick up, manifolds, extractors and mounts. Yeah Justin we had 40's on it, but the manifolds take 45's.
-
Thanks guys and thanks Des for the tank unit, it's all fitted and works great. I also hear there maybe some uprite stuff coming up for sale soon!!!! Stay tuned.
-
thanks Des I'll call you in the morning.

If you have a welder, put a washer over the broken bolt and weld it to the washer, then weld another bolt to that so you can put a spanner on it.

Today we have achieved a major milestone, the engine has been started. After a few teething problems, like no spark, the engine fired into life on the first turn of the key. Set the timing and gave it a quick tune on the carbs, runs very nice with very little hint of what lays be nether the cam covers. Idle is super smooth and is very responsive on the throttle. Very Happy. There's a few little things to clean up, like re-torquing the head, fixing the earth strap and re-doing the breather pipes.
