  1. i'd consider something like these but they look expensive.
  2. i'm trying to keep away from the stock/grandpa style because i have the ke20 for that. i'm going to try something different with this one. i'm going to keep most most of the car stock and make the wheels the focal point. as seabiscut says they stand out like a sore thumb. thats sort of how i want it but not how i would have worded it. this car is just going to get a rwc, probably a flip out dvd thing and associated sound system and some nice wheels as a focal point. i'll try and keep changing them up as funds allow and when i get bored with the ones i have. chromed ford 12 slotters are on the cards.
  3. i've decided to keep the engine carbureted just to save the hassle of fitting efi to a 40yo car. i'm not going tt be doing an engine conversion any time soon due to lack of cash flow and i use the philosophy 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.' having said that i've been looking at two styles of wheels. there is the vintage alloys, this would be my first option but they are going to cost about $2000 with tyres and thats way more than i'm willing to spend on wheels for a $400 car. the style i think i may end up with is fitting stock alloys of a new car. i can't find a picture of these on a ms55 but they are 300c alloys and you get the general idea. they are 18X8.5 with +24 offset. thoughts or more wheel suggestions?
  4. thanks for the feed back. having the 5X114.3 stud pattern has left me with too many wheels to choose from. i can't believe just how many types of wheels there are. on the topic of more cylinders you must know that after stepping out of my ke20 with 38kw, the crown with its 81kw engine and 180nm of torque is way more than enough to get my juices flowing. i just find it a bit weird that the car i got as a cruiser is faster than the car i got for spirited diving. :D
  5. shouldn't be hard to get parts engine/gearbox/diff/suspension wise but body panels and trim bits are a different issue. cheers.
  6. yeh, i totally agree with what you think. i was doing through the photos in the link that adam said and found almost exactly what i want to do with this car. this is what i'm aiming for. just straighten it, paint it, probably leave it stock height, some nice alloys and maybe an shiny exhaust. thats a great quote felix, can i use it as my theme? thanks to everyone for your support, i knew i did the right thing by saving this beauty. :)
  7. well i got it home today and it loved the drive. it was a bit slow at the start and kept struggling but after the first km or two it was running great. i found the exhaust has blown under the drivers seat at the first muffler. as a consequence it sounds like a ww1 fighter plane when you really give it some stick and shift down a gear. i think i'm more in love than when i first saw it. i'm currently looking for names so if anyone has a suggestion, i'd love to hear it.
  8. yeh the one i saw was a bit rough. still looked go tho. i'm not sure i've ever seen a ke15/7 sprinter that i haven't liked.
  9. ok, my bad. i just don't you wiki at all. sorry for wasting your time.
  10. hey guys. i'm just wanting to know what the D in the engine code stands for. i have looked through the faq and i can't find anything about this. i found a thread about engine codes on an american website but couldn't find anything about the D code. just wondering if anyone can help. even a link in the right direction. cheers, hendo.
  11. car is for sale! $1100 ono well where do i start. i was down at the wreckers on saturday looking for a pair of wheels for a friend and i found this beauty. it was just sitting off to the side of the lot and still had the keys in it. just out of sheer idiocy i turned the keys just to see what would happen, it started! i went up to the office to ask if it was possible to buy the car as a whole. the girl behind the counter wasn't much help and said i'd have to wait till the boss came back. while waiting for the boss i see this big forklift going towards the car, i freaked and tell the guys to stop. i run to the office and tell the girl to get her boss on the phone. i told him i'd buy the car right now. we agreed on a price so i ran back to the guys with the fork lift and tole them to put the car down but the damage was done. :) went back today to pick it up and took it for a small drive and all seems ok. the only thing that seemed wrong is that it was running really rich and you could only use less than 1/2 throttle otherwise it flooded. i'm think it's just crud on the carb needles. i'm going to see if i can get them out tomorrow and hopefully make things right. i have no idea of where to start, does anyone know how to get the jets out of a 2m carb? anyway enough of my rambling time for the pics. the interior including column shift and sheep skin covers. not bad for 40 years of wear and tear. the awesome headliner. the 2.6 4M power house! the damage done by the forklift as they where about to scrap it. not happy about this one. the only rust in the whole car. this is the other ding. should just pop out. and finally the pair of original hubcaps it came with. it also has 1 chrysler hubcap and 2 ford hubcaps too. it was just too good an opportunity to pass up. i don't have a final plan as yet. i'm just concentrating on getting it rwc and running good. what do you guys think? can anyone offer any ideas as to the style i can build it in? also, i'm looking for name suggestions.
  12. thanks for the responses guys. i'm going to start up a thread just for it. don't worry woz, the corolla won't be left out. it's still being driven regularly. the good thing is i can make the corolla more focused and performance oriented.
  13. yeh, it's not as straight on the other side. :y: bastards used a big forklift thing to move it and put two big bends in the other side. should be ok tho, the look like the kind that pop out and you just have to touch them up. i'm having second thoughts about driving it home. i haven't tested the brakes as yet. i'll take it for a drive round the block first. it's about a 30km drive from my house and there are lots of hills. just spoke to dad, it's all good :lolcry: it's great having car enthusiast parents.
  14. well, bad news. progress on the 20 will stop for the moment. i was out at the wreckers today looking for wheels for a mates commodore and came home with this. it's a 1969 ms55 toyota crown deluxe. i'm very happy with myself. it was too good to scrap and only cost me $400, $300 of which has been gifted to me by a mate for looking after his car. haha. i'm going to drive it home tomorrow and get some more photos for you guys. thoughts? ps: i haven't told my parents yet. they're going to kill me when they find out. :y:
  15. spotted a green ke15/17 (i can't tell them apart) with a black boot heading down malvern rd towards the city at about 3 this afternoon. never seen the car before. anyone on here?
  16. NEMESIS!!!! i can't stop laughing. :P
  17. haha, what kind of ke things? the legal stuff or the fun stuff? :)
  18. bahahahahahahaha looking good with the rolla. +1 for more pics.
  19. nice find bks. was this an 'ace' special? lol. lets just keep that one between ourselves. also i must live really near you cos i live a 5min drive from there you took those photos.
  20. this happens to me when i get a cold. i got sick about 2 weeks ago and had 7 large blood noses in the space of two days. needless to say i was a bit out of it.
  21. that's brilliant! i'm deffs going to looking them. went for a drive yesterday and the rain really doesn't help my handling problems. it go to the point that i was considering fitting a TA22 diff with custom mounts, just so i could get an lsd center. one of the next things on my list is to repaint the plastic trims (brake light surrounds, bonnet vent things, corner garnishes, ect) back to the factory silver. i wan wondering if anyone knows the paint code for this silver, or even an equivalent current colour that is a close match. cheers, hendo.
  22. wgmg is it being a friday night, me having no money to go out, my parents being sick and have gone to bed so i can't watch tv cos it wakes them up and having no friends on there internets to chat to on msn. normally i'd go for a drive now but i have no petrol. i know that it could be a lot worse but it's the fact that i'm not doing anything that annoys me. i hate just sitting idle.
  23. yeh i'm trying to get a style going thats what i call 'improved production' not like the race cars but making the car better without talking away from the original style. i have a set of japanese chrome guard mirrors, like the ones you see on bernieboy's green KE26. that i'm going to fit up when i can get around to it. i have put a stereo in it but kept it in the glove box so i can keep the original am radio in the dash. to be honest, i haven't tried to push the limits of the new wheels yet. i had the hg replaced last week and i'm still wearing it in. i've been told not to go over 4000 rpm, which limited my 'testing'. lol. yeh, i was thinking about this some more. i like the wheels as they are now so i might not get the chrome rings but i'm still going to get some center caps. not as fancy as your 'pointy center caps of death' troy but maybe just a chrome hemisphere to cover up the centers. this all depends on what i can get to fit the centers tho. as for the trims, i'm looking for a weekend that i don't need the car and they will be straight off. lol. i'm going to re-spray them factory silver with the black outs on the front corner garnishes a semi-gloss black. i'll try and find a photo of the stock paint i'm going for. finally, the lowering. in the pictures of the car with 14's i actually have the stock wheels in the boot so it's sitting about an inch lower than it normally does. i'll get some pictures with nothing in the boot so you guys can see how it sits. the front however is that high. i need some firmer ones at the front cos i have recently put a whiteline swaybar in the back. this had made the rear much firmer than stock so now my front springs are woefully soft. it's set up like a fwd so the car will turn in great but mid corner will cock the inside rear wheel so i can't accelerate out of corners. it just spins and with the open diff i lose all speed and just understeer. so i'm just going to get the rears reset one inch lower then have new springs made for the front that are 2" lower and about 3-4kg heavier in rate. what do you guys think?
  24. not a fan of the big crown hubbies. i was going to get some trim rings and centers when i save up some more money. can i get center caps with the T3q logo on them? the only ones i have seen just have a big t on them.
  25. i was thinking a 2in drop in the front and a 1in drop in the back to level it out but i like your car with the 2in drop all round. now i'm confused as to what to do.
