wgmg: JDM. and the fact that it now gets slapped to anything japanese and cool.
i was doing some research into the origins of this term 'JDM' and stared getting very angry when i found out how far it was removed from it's original context.
the term 'JDM' is short for 'japanese domestic market'. so this applies to all cars/versions sold only in japan. it all stared with people buying japanese spec clear indicators and badges for there australian delivered r32 skylines and in the 90's. this was back when jdm car where just that, cars made to look like japanese spec cars. then in the early 2000's when we had a raft of cool, gun metal, de-winged s15 silvias around the term started being applied to those cars even if some of the parts where not even factory items but japan only tuner parts. then in about 2006-ish the name 'JDM' became more mainstream and started being applied to any smooth, subtly modified japanese car. the next thing i know every ke70/ae86/skyline that has been dumped on some nice wheels with one solid colour paint job is suddenly fcukn 'JDM'! i don't see how a silver 'ADM' ae86 dumped on chopped falcon spring and a set of dark grey "globe" style alloys and a long stainless exhaust pipe is 'JDM'. what part of it is 'JDM'? people need to sharpen up and know what they are saying before i sit them down and give them a good taking to about not using words that you don't know the meaning of. :P
