No way could it be a factory job. My guess would be a jap nostalgia race car from the states maybe. Hard to say, bit would love to get some more info on this thing. Looks freakin awesome. And from the videos that I've seen of the legendary 3k-r, this thing would fly. Nice find! Cheers Jason

And here's a picture I took of the beast yesterday. Yes it's dirty but that'll change once I get my mitts on it. Cheers Jason

Haha. Yea I'm considering just going all out with a new exhaust system. My mate owns a maverick that has mountains of torque. That thing can pull second gearies and get sideways with ease. Not that I condone such behaviour :P.

Ok, so I went to the caryard yesterday and me and my dad gave it a thorough going over. And other than a very slight crack in the exhaust manifold, and needing a couple of new tyres, all was good, so i put a deposit on it. The timing belt had been replaced at 170xxx kms. Got for a very cool price of $6500. Oh, and for those of you playing at home, it's a 1994 KZN130, imported in 98. Getting the keys at the end of this month, subject to me getting the finance. Very unlikely that I'll have a problem with that. Cheers for everyones help.

Awesome cheers guys. I'll be headin to the caryard after work with my dad. He's very mechanically minded so he'll know some stuff to look out for. Hopefully we'll be able to work out a deal...

Well guess what... I found a 3lt hilux surf at a caryard in my price range. It's done 233xxx kms, 5 speed manual. Took it for a test drive and everything seemed alright. The only problem is I can't get the loan yet because I'm not 18 til the 26th of this month, but I think that if I do some sweet talking I may be able to put a deposit on it and they can hold it for me til I get the loan. Is there anything that I should look at before I put a deposit on it? Cheers Jason

WGMG: I found a nice lookin car at a caryard after work today, got told that before I put a deposit on it I should go and get my loan approval first, so I stopped in at the factory on the way to the bank to pick up some payslips. It was about 3:45 when I left, thinkin i had over an hour to do what I had to do. Got to the bank at 4:00 and they had just shut! Are you f*&kin kidding me!!! Closing at 4 o'bloody clock on a weekday! A Thursday at that matter. They just don't have their priorities right, I mean if they were to stay open for the extra hour or so they would make a killing from people who would have just finished work. Now I have to wait til tomorrow to get the loan approval which just gives the Hilux that I want to get more time to be sold before I get my greasy mitts on it. F#@kin BANKS!!

Even better, in Adelaide, in my price range, and 5 speed. LINK

All very good points of view and advice. I love seeing old troopy's and landcruisers on the road, but for something that I will be driving daily and in some cases need to park in inconvenient, busy places, I need it to be a comfortable drive as well as ballsy. Which is why I'm still lovin the look of a Hilux Surf. Like this one: LINK Cheers for all the help guys. Keep it comin. Jason

Yes I've heard that also. I'll probably stick with the insurance company that my whole family is already with, should be able to get myself a good deal that way. Wait and see.
-
That is very true, I don't think I'll ever get a good price as I'm only turning 18 next month. Hence why I'm treating myself to a nice vehicle as a birthday present to myself :hmm:. That and going skydiving next saturday :y:.

I'm starting to lean towards an early 90's Hilux Surf. They would be ideal for work and fun for weekends. There's plenty out there in my price range, even if I have to go interstate to get it, I would for the right one. Was looking at insurance on the internet for one, and it's not cheap, but that's what you get for full comprehensive. Pretty much the computer told me it would cost $1900 a year, but I think that if I was to go there in person I might get a better deal. What do you guys reckon?

Vitara might be a little too small to lug around tools though won't it? Right now I'm having a look at 4runners/surf's or Land cruiser with roof racks. All seem to be quite high kms though.
-
I used to own an LN65 4x4 but that was rusted to hell and sluggish, just an uncomfortable drive in general. Just found this BJ73 Landcruiser which looks pretty cool. But again, looks a little uncomfortable to drive.
-
Yea I'd throw any toyota wagon up in the woodworks. Even those AWD corolla's that came out seem alright.
-
I'm not totally set on a 4wd. Still fully open to opinions on other vehicles, eg. station wagons or utes. Like what have you owned and it has been great for work and weekends?
-
Hmm... I am always seeing troopy's on carsales. Very common car on that site, yet you don't see heaps of them on the road. Quite odd really.
-
Well pretty much, have a whole bunch of tools, nothing massive just a fair amount, will be carrying aluminum across the top from time to time. Plus I want it for weekend play time :y:. So a 4wd of some sort would probably be great. Hence the Ford Explorer. I was always thinkin a subaru Liberty, but might be kinda small. I would get a ute only if it had a canopy. I know, I'm fussy, :hmm:. So do the transfer cases always go in them? Or were they just lemons?
-
Hey everyone. So I'm lookin at getting a vehicle which I desperately need for a work car. But also something I can use on weekends. I think I've found a gem, but I don't know too much about them. It's a 1997 Ford Explorer with only 147xxx km's on the clock and is in absolutely immaculate condition. So if anyone can give me some insight to this vehicle, or can give me any recommendations on other work horses than please hit me up (I'm lookin at you Mr. Shades) :hmm:. My maximum price is $7000. Cheers in advance Jason

Gavclassic, Yet Another Low Kilometer Find !
Jason KE30 replied to Gavclassic's topic in Rollaclub Rides
Hollllyyy Shiznickle Gavman!! That thing is utterly insane! How did you manage to find it when you live so far away?!?! You have the best luck of any man! Extremely jealous! -
That thing is f@$king awesome. It's a shame more 3k-r's weren't made. The sound of that engine is purely orgasmic! Lovin the wheel spacers on the hubs lol. I wish I could speak japanese! :)
-
165+ in my ke30 goin down a hill. Stock 3k and 4speed. As above, steering wheel was shaking tremendously and it was scary as all shit. Will never, EVER do it again in a stock corolla.
-
Wow! This thing is in absolutely pristine condition. I totally agree with everyone else, leave it exactly how it is with maybe some whitewalls and hubbies, but that's as far as you need to go. Lovin it :)

Haha, show 'em the whip Lesley!!
