The ke70 still the better car though :)
-
Ohh I can understand, just do the easier option and transfer the plates from the mustard hardtop onto this. :)
-
This ke70 looks very very 80's, and I bloody love it! Keep up the good work mate :)

Boo, How long has it been out of rego for? If the rego has been expired for under two months there is grace period. With the ae71 I wanted to retain the old plates even though the car was out of rego for just under two months and was able to do so provided I got a rwc within that two month time frame. So in effect once the rwc is done, you are preety much just re newing the rego, as opposed to re regestering it from scratch.
-
I'm liking the progress Boo, ironically that tape deck is identical to the original unit fitted in dads old Liteace van. I'm guessing you are re registering the car with the original rego too?

ke30 at pick a part cambelfield overrated REAR LIGHTS AND BUMBER! That whole car was bloody overrated, except the small front end bingle. Not one spec of rust on any panel or body part. It had one of the best cream non cracked vinyl interiors I've seen for a very long time.

Thanks for remembering Boo, we'll find one eventually! :)

Hey Boo, I have an enlargened version of the same photo. The quality isnt the clearest but it should you give you a better idea. This this a genuine ae71 csx unit, marked Toyota made by Phillips.
-
Does anyone know if there are any slant front ke70 csx's or ae71 csx's down at Centre road wreckers? I'm hunting for a genuine csx tape deck but have had no luck so far. Gavclassic replied offering me tape deck and console and I replied back requesting only tape deck and relevant wiring but have not heard back back from him. Thanks, Ben. Below is a photo of the tape deck.

This will be good, now things will really get moving. Literally! :)

Thanks Matt, My Tupperware e7's can't be that bad if they have been offered to be in a retro car magazine! :)
-
:) I think the paint code is the first two letters, followed by the trim colour and axle code. Jesse, the proper name for the paint is called "Glacier" and its metallic. You're colour is on the bottom rh corner. Doesn't that red car familiar :laff:

Another good magazine is Retro Autos, it is new to the market and the the third issue will be released in July. This particular magazine isnt your typical muscle car genre, mainly more the old Holdens, Fords and cars that arent really given the exposure they deserved (i.e Japenese). If you have a original vehicle/s you would like to contribute, go on the retro autos website and submit an expression of interest.

Andy is a top bloke who gives a fair go, I don't recall his son though? and yes that young short guy with the dark hair is just pulls prices out of the air.

People collect overrated Tupperware containers as well:lolcry: Sought after or not, they are harder to find as all the jdm kamikaze drifters hack the crap out of theirs in order to be different. They are style in themselves - bog standard, and will become more apparent as time passes. :abuse: Paul, My Tupperware is ADM, not JDM :P so its even better!

If this is in reference to the ae71, i'd say below or around 4,000. It dosent have a tacho so I'm only guessing. According to motoring magazines, auto ae71's used the manual diff from the ke70 due to its better acceleration and take off. However taking the edge off the open road performance and efficiency. Theres probably a way of working out he rpm but I have no clue. All I know is the car has the standard 175/70 r13 tires with a 4.11 diff and 3 speed auto if that helps working out rpm.

Cheers for the complements Instigator, I love old cars as they are, more so if they were before my time. Nowdays they become more of a stand out car I think. I agree with the fuel issue though, it averages around the 10l/100km mark which matches what car magazines discovered at the time too. Ironically I went to a carby specialist and mentioned the car had new plugs, points, condensor, rotor button, oil, oil filter, air filter and fuel filter and that the timing was 100% on the mark and told him it was driven "normally" not thrashed, and he said how many litres to 100 do you get? I said 10L to which he replied thats about normal 1.6 auto so I wouldnt waste money tuning it because thats the best its going to get. However, recently I achieved 8.5L/100 which was better again. Personally I'm not a fan of the auto choke as it stays on too long from what Ive experienced, 2-3km down the road after letting it idle for 1 minute the choke is still on, so no doubt it dosent help the issue, however thats mysteriously been solved after detailing the engine. Maybe I knocked off or back in place a hose or plug as the car dosent idle so high when its cold in neutral or pull so hard when its stationary in drive.

I was going through some old photos, going as far back as 10 years - Millenium year and when I got my learners permit. There are past and present cars. Toyota Liteace - great van, indestructable and went on and on no matter how hard the job was. But with rust, blown head gasket and cracked rear leaf spring Sims metal it was only destined for. I learned cluth control in this at the age of 11, including 2nd gear take offs! Year 2000 Year 2003 or 4 Corolla ae82, replaced the Liteace. Had it in the family 5 years now, feels so long ago as I was 16 then. Year 2005 Corolla ke70, photo is from 2002 when grandpa still had it. Had colour coded ke55 mirrors, ae82 cs wheel covers, no headlight covers, ventetian, corolla pinstriping. The interior of course had the obligatory carpets piled on top another, along with the notepads, pens and other goodies that an old person has in their car along with gt stipe seat covers.

The bloke you need to deal with (if you're lucky enough) is the old guy Andy, not the younger guy who dosent seem to be interestred in what you talk about. 8-10 years ago before all these other profiteering tools worked there Andy was honest and in some cases he would let you have the part for nothing. The younger guy clearly makes his own prices, Eg Ae71 t bar console surround, $45.00 if you take it off you're self Ae82 drivers' window $35.00 if you take it out your self Ae71 front bumber bar $80.00 if you take it off your self :blinks:

Exactly guys, I was very shocked too. A couple of weeks back Paul and I went down to get some pieces around 4.30pm and the double gates were shut, and today with a mate again we went back only to find the gates closed but this time a sign on the gate said to go to 93 Heahterton Rd (CMA Recycling), so we went down only to be told "Nah its closed, for good" I couldnt believe it!
-
Nice find Bamboo, was this the one on carsales by any chance? There was ke 50 at pick pay n go a while back however the wrecker has now closed down. Very disappointing. I like this already and know it will only get better!
-
Just a little heads up for anyone from the east side, Pick, Pay n' Go is not operating anymore. I went to CMA recycling down the road and was told this. So anyone passing by hoping its going to open don't bother as its gone. :blinks: :blinks:

Hey Matt, Loving both cars, that auto ke70 needs a shot of horse power. How about a hot 5k with a manual conversion, you seem to be capable of rebuilding a motor or tickling one up and this would be considerably easier to undertake as the 5k will simply bolt into the bay with no issues. Then all you have to do is the manual conversion, in this case I don't believe you would need an engineers certificate beacuse the capacity is under 1.6 litres. But Ill stand to be corrected. From what you have said, the car appears to be very original. IF I was to have this car I would leave 110% stock on the outside and inside but make sure whats under the bonnet would get up and go hard while still looking standardish, which goes back to me earlier suggesting a 5k engine as visually theyre identical. Everyone nowdays wants the JDM or nanna look, but leaving yours the way it is would be enough to make it stand out as it looks spotless, and its a fresh looking yellow - attention grabber. But thats my two cents, keep up the good work Matt. :blinks:

What the stop sooking comment? I could be in regards to the topic starter writing in capitals and not fully using punctuation. It can be irratating for some members to read and can come across as shouting. Hence why they were taking the piss out of it. Anyway its over and members are sharing their comments and advice like they should be.

Looks great mate, that engine bay came up perfect. Keep it up.
